Strange time to be a Wings fan.

I think Holland had one of his better off seasons as of late, however the timing isnt great because the law of averages don't bode well for his success rate which rendered us a sour bunch.

I am of the school of thought, that it is time to abandon making the playoffs and just worry about getting the kids we want to represent the next wave, even if that is more my depth than just 1-2 elite talent guys supporting us.

PS - KH, Im not as hard on as I think much of the challenges are laid by asking/market prices are unfortunately market value, but I really wish on certain players he would see what we seem to see (Ericsson) for example.

I brought up Cleary. I also will continue to lament long deals that are overpriced given to Helm and Abby. I love both of those guys so it pains me to do so but seriously. And Glendenning also seems a bit steep for a 4th liner. Don't even get me going on Miller. I don't think he'd play on most AHL teams.

I love the Wings, but some of this stuff has ramifications that will affect performance going forward.

Did you see the extension that Killorn just signed? Abdelkader is a better player on a more favorable deal than that. I know, I know, "just because someone else is willing to pay doesn't mean you have to." Who's going to replace what Abby brings if we didn't sign him, though? No one. We do not have another Grit + Skill player on this team. In the system, maybe, but not ready for the role he fills. Jurco has the tools but isn't played enough and doesn't have the same edge.

The Glendening contract is fair. Miller is an elite penalty killer with, in my opinion, very poor offensive luck the past 2 years. He's not purely defensive and he does keep cycles moving and create chances in the opponent's zone.

I will never defend the Helm contract unless he puts up some 15-20G/40PT seasons (very doubtful).

Edit: Opposing players also absolutely hate Abdelkader and when you have a player like he and Glendening getting under players' skin and in their heads, which isn't always easy to do, it brings an additional positive element to their being on the team.

Again we share the same thoughts. Aside from Helm ive been happy. I would have been mayyybe more satisfied just signing a few less forwards to give the kids a better chance but if they are actually better (ala Larkin) they should make it.

I just dont really get ppl mad about Nielsen. If you want him thats what you pay him. If you want Abby thats what you pay him. A team cant afford all players walking just because we wont overpay. I think Holland is fully aware when he over pays for a player but thats the NHL. That Ladd and Lucic deal are far worse than any deal (aside from possibly helm) that Holland has made this off season. To each their own about what they think of each guy but overpaying is how you get an keep players unless you live in Florida and you call sell the sun and taxes to help you low ball players
