I wouldn't have made the trade myself, but from Ottawa's perspective they get a guy who is slightly better and cost controlled on a reasonable contract (they have a tight budget) and don't have to worry about re-signing Zibanejad in a year.

Now the Rags can retain some salary on Nash. Dominoes

Brassard is only due 3.5 in actual cash for 2 of the 3 years I think. Zibanejad would had cost more most likely.
