We should have signed a 4th liner like Czikas who never scored 10 goals to 3.5 mill a year long term.
- mdw7413

haha, I actually really like Czikas though, that is a lotta moolah

6 years younger, Brassard only has two more years on his deal after next season

this is long term thinking by the Rangers for a young player who is already solid at 23

- jimbro83

Absolutely. It may only be a cost savings for a year, but it's really about age, future potential, and yes..... a right hand shot!

He'll probably sign for $5.5 next year and be "more expensive" but it still looks like a good deal for Gorton.

I really want to know how he is on defense.

Wait! Didn't you retire Brass's number?
- Fenrir

G and Cally haha

Only negative I se really is zucc losing his other husband, like Hags.

I love brassard don't get me wrong but they got a lot of positives in this deal

Yeah but you're going to end up paying Zibanejad probably almost identically to Brassard after this season. They have a similar offensive output to date. Just kinda seems like they're getting younger and not much else is changing. It's not like the savings from Zibanejad this coming season are going to allow them to bring in a real quality player who is under contract for more than just next year.

Not knocking the trade, it certainly wasn't bad, but I just don't see the major value in it.

Another streaky player. Can't we line up the streaks in advance?
- Fenrir

As long as the streaks line up in April, May and June, we'll be fine. He he

if you believe Zibjanejad had topped out at 23 years of age then yeah, but I am sure they see a much higher ceiling

My take: the deal was about changing the mix and improving consistent compete level as much as getting younger and clearing cap space.

It's certainly plausible, no argument there.

Ok, but that still leaves somebody else this team being exposed. They are going lose somebody. My bet is on one of the Matt's not being happy.
- tomburton99

Every team in the league is going to lose somebody. But it's one person and that's it.

As expected Rangers Twitter is against the trade plus The mention of Girardi and Staal still on the team let you know this trade is a good one

5-6 years younger, very close in points. Cap saving for this year plus a 2nd?????

You crazy

- mdw7413

Cap savings are nice, but kinda useless when you only have them for a year. Can't really do much other than cough up more picks/prospects for an overrated vet on an expiring contract. Unless something else is coming, I'm just kinda neutral on the trade. Not bad in any sense, but far from some sort of massive victory.

We add a 2nd which will bring back a nice rental player at the deadline in a package with Skjei.

But really, this is more about changing up a stale piece of the core more than anything else I think.

Love this trade to be honest. Absolutely love it.

Z is 6 years younger and scored 51 points last year. Brassard's career high is 60 points i believe. Not to mention we got the 2nd too. Awesome trade.

They got younger. They got more upside. They got a right handed shot. And, they now have $2.4 million worth of cap space to use this year, and whatever manner they deem fit. Personally, I see them signing Hudler or Gagner with that money.
