Excellent strategy!! I try to do that too, but every once in a while I relapse! |

Really? Chara is no longer our best defenseman. Florida's depth in the middle doesn't even come close to the Bruins. Center is the most important position. I don't think the Panthers could compete with the Bruins in a 7 game series. Too young. They'll be good in a few years. Toronto and Montreal will battle for the last spot. - Bruiniak
Lucky for the panthers that the bruins aren’t a playoff team anymore. |

The Bruins are going to fight with the Bolts for top spot in the Atlantic. No other team out east has better depth at center than we do. It did not set us back a decade.
The PK trade was like trading your entire franchise away. The Habs will be beyond terrible without him. One of only three teams in the league that does not have a superstar. - Bruiniak

Good regular season team. They'll probably finish up top the division along with the Penguins. They wouldn't scare me in the playoffs. |

pretty sure Holmer had fallen off the wagon when he cooked up that contract - DoubleDown
Meh, IMO it was a shrewd move to put Preds in that position. Now maybe the term until he's 41 would give pause but for a team like the Flyers who just saw Prongs hit the end of his road, potentially getting a guy like Weber who would immediately be a Philly favorite made all the sense in the world. Flyers have/had no cash flow issues so throwing out the money in bonuses put all of the pressure on the Preds.

It's pretty optimistic to think anyone you draft is going to turn into a a top five 5v5 scorer. Taylor Hall has put together a career that is on track for the Hall of Fame. It's a terrible trade no matter how it's sliced.
And the D is more valuable than W argument is insane. You could argue that all things being equal you'd rather have a D over a W, but the idea that you'd trade an elite winger for an OK D just because of some whacked out notion of value is not making any sense to me. - James_Tanner
Optimistic yes! I just said it could have played into their decision making is all. They had a clear need and couldn't go into another season with the same roster. That is a clear definition of insanity.
So it's a gamble over insanity. |

Do you remember the games? Do you remember the lineup? That was without a doubt the best hockey team in the history of hockey. Price was a non-factor. I was shocked that he was picked for this team. With the glut of Canadian talent, it really is a slap in the face to other goaltenders who've worked their asses off in the last year. - Bruiniak

Come on James you have to look at the big picture...nobody was doing the Oil a favour....they had to overpay...plus Edm just drafted another forward who can probably play now..plus they got a much needed D and Lucic was on their radar.
Sure they overpaid but who cares if they missed out on a pick.
I don't mind the trade if Larsen can come in and really help them.
We'll know in a few months |

That was fine at the time though. - James_Tanner
Rask for Raycroft was never fine. It was a rookie GM trying to keep his job so he traded away the best goalie prospect in the world for a goalie who won rookie of the year in his first season and then was terrible in his second season.
If JF jr. wasn't a rookie GM afraid to lose his job - and instead a veteran, less reactionary GM was in place - the Leafs never would've traded Rask. |
