I will reiterate my original question(s): what has Boudreau tangibly done wrong in game 7s and what could he have done differently in those games to get a different outcome? Again, bearing in mind that the Ducks' PDO in game 7s is 91.8 when the "average" PDO is 100? I'm assuming that you understand the concept of PDO and why it matters. If not, there's not much more to discuss.

Specifically in the Chicago series, Kesler owned Toews in all 7 games. In games 6 and 7, Quenneville began to double shift Toews. Boudreau refused to do the same with Kesler. In the end, Toews was instrumental in getting the wins, but only on the shifts when he wasn't lining up with Kesler. Two games to see this and Boudreau could not find it. PDO is not completely luck, it can be somewhat generated. If you are standing on nothing more than game 7 PDO, then you dont have much. Remember it takes 4 games to lose a series. Half of those losses came in games 1-5.

I'll give you two. Game 7 vs. Nashville, the Ducks came out flat, got in a 2-0 hole and never recovered. That is on the coach. 2015, WCF Game 7 vs Chicago. The entire world knew Andersen was gassed in game 6. He should have switched to Gibson, but went with a mentally spent Andersen. At the very least, Gibson should have gotten one start in the first two series. BB rode Andersen like a government mule and burned him out.

Amen, FA was awful in game 7s. If BB started Gibson game 7 vs trashville, I think the outcome would have been different.

Game 7, every time Getzlaf/Perry were out for an offensive zone draw, Coach Q got Toews/Kane on as soon as Chicago got possession. Boudreau couldn't seem to respond to that. And Getz/Pears can't defend Toews/Kane. I was there. It was a joke.

That said, if you're firing a coach for screwing up the playoffs, you should at least replace him with a coach that can get you to the playoffs.

Yeah . I agree about finding a coach that can get you too the playoffs. At this point I'm crossing my fingers that we get enough talent that we can coast to a playoff spot . But i think its going to be tougher this year . Calgary, Edmonton, and Arizona should all be alot bettter . And we still have LA, and San Jose to deal with . So yeah . It's looking like a rough year ahead . We're probably going to have to play like Nashville. Let our dmen jump up on the rush alot and hope gibby can hold the other team off .

The one and only thing that Carlyle brings to the table is preparation. His hiring tells me that Boudreau did not lose his job because of the playoffs, but because of the ridiculously bad start to the season. People actually forget, due to the Carlyle years, that the Ducks have a history of starting the season slowly. Carlyle is notorious for brutal training camps and also famous for having his team ready to play on day 1. The talent on this team, especially defensively, is there to make the playoffs, even with a bad start (ex. last season). I still think the Ducks are the top team in the division on paper and I do expect them to have a better start to the coming season under Carlyle. He is, still, only a good coach if his personnel on the ice is good. I think he is a below average coach in season. Boudreau is better once the games get started.
