The people that voted that referendum down because it was going to increase their taxes probably didn't realize that, if my memory serves me correctly, the increase was going to be about $14/yr.

The complaints about the Barclays Center are so overblown it's not even funny. There are plenty of seats available that don't have restricted views. It's less than ideal, but it's far from the disaster most would make out of it. Ranger fans manage to make it from Suffolk to MSG with little complaint. Barclays is literally the exact same distance. People are just upset because the convenience went away.

- eichiefs9

It was $43/yr and that was worst case scenario. A lot of the blame has to do with Kate Murray that fat slob sending emails and having residents of Garden City and the surrounding area called telling them the world would implode if it were approved. Well she got the (frank)ing horns in the end now didn't she?

it's not a sweeping generalization on everyone, but you must know the type. i grew up around em and got the (frank) away from them the first chance i had. definitely the right choice for me just like it was for the islanders. now they can truly flourish.

Meh. I lived in Manhattan for years as well as Long Island. That type is in both the city Brooklyn included and Long Island. It's New York. There were so many things wrong with that vote(doing it on a mid morning work day, making it impossible to actually cast a ballot, etc) the least of the issues were Long Islanders being douches. It was more along the lines of Long Island politicians being their usual mother (frank)erz selves

Maybe someone from AZ or who has been out there, could fill me in, but is that arena just in the middle of nowhere or is it that they really just have no fan base?
- mdw7413

Are they still in the Glendale arena? I've been there. I was staying in Scottsdale for work and went to a game with my wife. It was a bit of a drive, but nothing crazy. There are a lot of restaurants and things to do surrounding the arena, so it seems like it was built with the aim of having it be an activity destination for the day of a game...shopping and restaurants before the game and then you go to the arena, all without heading back to your car. At least that's all from what I remember. It was like 10 years ago.

I've been to the Panthers' arena, and that seemed way more out of the way...just kind of an arena in the middle of not much else (there's a mall up the road where the visiting teams' fans just sort of shuffle about looking at each other wondering if that's the normal thing to do before game time).

Yep. Wang didn't make any friends on his way up the ranks and in the end that is what killed the lighthouse project. He had quite a few proposals shot down by long island politicians long before he bought the Islanders. His latest ploy was pumping millions of donationsdonations into long island Jewish hospital the "non for profit" hospital of new york thinking that'd help his cause. Long Island politicians don't care about donations to other parties just their own wallets.

YUP!! i have a ton of respect for wang over that even though it did not achieve the intended results. he had principles, refused to succumb to their corruption, and it cost him a significant amount of money and success, and still he refused to blink.

those people are such scumbags, especially that ToH republican stronghold. the day those (frank)s start croaking of old age is the day LI could possibly become a viable place for sound development where young people won't have to move away after college or live in their parents' house until they're 40

Pretty sure they are, although its called something weird now.

Interesting, I guess they just don't really have the support out there.

Ive always said, Nassau is not in the cards again contrary to what all these fans that are once again being stupid and boycotting Barclays. Yes I do believe these are the very same fans that wouldn't support isles when they were in Nassau in first place and actually helped TOH and Nassau decision not to help Wang keep them there.

I feel like I did my part, as I was season ticket holder during bad times at Nassau and supported the isles in first season at Barclays.

However, the effect of this boycott will only do more harm to the team. Last year I took a big bath owning season tickets and I just don't have the money burn again renewing. The Barclays control ticket sales and not the Islanders., I told my ticket rep there is no benefit of being a season ticket holder, especially when the Barclays would constantly hose the season ticket holder flooding ticketmaster with whole inventory of cheap tickets.

Ill go to my fair share game and will continue to support them But Remember this, One amazing quality about Charles Wang is he did whatever he could to keep Islanders on long island. These new owners will not. So, I keep saying you wont go to Barclays and next move will be out of NY.

Funny thing was we ended up sitting next to the Ultimate Coyotes Superfan. Guy argued every call, shouted players' first names, tried to get chants started...if they had a couple thousand of him, it'd be the toughest building in the league to play in.

Older discussion. Barzal might be best find we have had that wasn't a layup. that layup being John Tavares at #1 overall.
A close second is Nelson taken last in 1st round.

Our best late round finds - Hamonic, Cizikas, Lee and I would throw Martin in there. Beyond that I cant think of any others.

Disappointing relative to where they were drafted - Bailey and DeHaan. Strome could be there if he doesn't have a bounce back season. I might be in minority, but I think Neilsen leaving will be blessing for Strome. I think Strome could be our big secondary difference maker on this team this year.

Also I a lot of people are excited about new owners b/c they will spend to win. Hate to say, that isn't any different then Charles Wang when you bought the team.

He spend a lot of money to win, unfortunately Milbury destroyed a potential cup winning team with too many moves.

Snow is far better GM. If you don't understand why he didn't renew Okposo or Martin, then you really don't understand how to manage a team salary.

I would think if I lived in a desert I would go to every hockey game I could just to cool off. Even if I wasn't a fan.

This may come as a surprise to you, but air conditioners are available for purchase in Arizona.
