Erne should learn how to play in the AHL first. 29 points in 59 gp doesn't strike me as a guy that's NHL ready dude.

See Keith Aucoin, Nick Ritchie if you want a higher draft pick. Keith Aucoin put up over 100 points one year in the AHL and a few seasons in the 90 points but the best NHL season was 30 something games played and 13 points. Nick Ritchie put up nearly a point per game in the AHL then put up 4 points in 33 NHL games. Because you play well in the AHL does not mean you play well in the NHL and because you do not put up points like crazy in the AHL does not mean you play poorly in the NHL. You don't know how someone plays in the NHL until they play in the NHL.

Aucoin wasn't an ahl producer till he was 24, and for years the knock on him was his size. If he was born 10 years later he likely would have had more of an nhl career.

As for Nick Ritchie, he is four months younger than Erne, if anything the fact that Ritchie is in the NHL and didn't do much should show you how far Erne even is from being a NHLer.

Erne isn't ready, and likely won't be till next year at the earliest. He's had a great Q playoff run, but that does not indicate he should be in the NHL anytime soon.

Erne's game isn't NHL ready. His two way game isn't where it needs to be. Cooper wont play him the way he should be played if he does not have a well rounded game see Kucherov, Nikita, Drouin, Johnathan.

There's this too.

But has there been a 21 yo AHL player that had roughly 29 points in 59 games and made the jump the next season to being a fulltime NHLer? I can't think of anyone like that.

I don't have the answers, I just enjoy talking about it since it's the dog days of summer and we are too far away from hockey. Look at a guy like Victor Rask, in the AHL he put up 39 points in 76 games, about the same per game as Erne. Rask moved up to the NHL put up 33 and 48 points and just got a nice contract. He is 23 now, was 21 in the AHL/NHL so same age as Erne. My only argument is points in the AHL does not signify NHL ready. You can give plenty of people who did well in the AHL but not NHL, like Aucoin and Ritchie and there are people who did not do great in the AHL but are doing well in the NHL. We don't know if Erne is ready for the NHL until he is in the NHL.

How about a guy like Ryan O'Reilly too? He was drafted same exact as Erne, 33rd overall, put up less points in the OHL compared to Erne. He went into the NHL right away and "struggled", didn't even put up 30 points per year in his first two years. No he is not an 80 point guy but if we can get 50-60 points from Erne year after year I'd take it. Do you think a guy like O'Reilly would have "developed" in the AHL instead of putting up his 26 points in the NHL? I don't, I think there are AHL players and there are NHL players. This could be so wrong so don't go nuts but I think Kucherov would be exactly where he is today if he played in the NHL right away instead of the AHL.

Fair enough. I get what you're saying, and your Raask comparison I found interesting.

I have no skin in the game other than the fact I want to be in attendance when they win a Cup but mostly like to talk hockey.

Same here. I like the fact that the Bolts are so deep that they can afford to let a guy like Erne develop an extra year. Had Erne been drafted by the Hurricanes, he might be in the NHL by now. I think Conacher is basically insurance policy until Callahan comes back or other injuries. And he's cheaper than bringing up one of our top prospect. And he could be high reward, although, I was glad to see him go back in the day. Hopefully he got a little stronger in the legs and wont be knocked over by a burst of wind.

I also think they might be going for it this year and then next year, the team might have a very different dynamic (Bye Bye TJ)

So first things first the Conacher signing is great value for a 4th line producer that can be buried from a deployment standpoint and provide a positive penalty differential.

Finally can kucherovski stop being a dumb idiot?

Good one. Yeah a guy who nobody wanted is going to be a "producer" on the 4th line. Over/under 19.5 points for Conacher on the season genius? Hint: the answer is under.

Well the 4th line range for 5v5 points this past season was between 6-13 points and 7-17 points for all situations but let's not let facts get in the way.

Who was our 4th line? Boyle, Brown, Marchy, Paquette? 3 of those 4 had more than your max 17.

It's not my max. It's the actual numbers based on rankings...

Probably NHL average. Don't care about NHL average, we are not the Devils, only care how our top 4 lines perform so it's a pointless stat to me
