Bet you Edmonton loves that they gave Yakupov max everything. Hey, whatever, he's a number 1 pick. They get whatever they want.
Come on.
The media wants to rile up the fan base and it's clearly working with some of you.
Come October when Matthews suits up, we'll all be wondering why the hell we bothered. - WingmanWillie
You only get the bonuses if you preform. It's a no brainer.
The point is that it's just really unnecessary to have us talk about this. |

You're a guy who can clearly get by on his looks alone, but adding in the brains makes it unfair for the rest of us. But can you do one of these write ups but using Quick and Bernier? As if that trade just happened. How close were those 2? I'm jaded as (frank) obviously with the Leafs and their goalies. Granted it was Lou who traded for Bernier, still...I'm curious. - weirdoh
hahaha
my point is mostly that Andersen was their man, they had to pick a goalie, and with Andersen costing them approx. 5 mil a season, why go with him when you will likely lose one of the two when Vegas comes into play. They have Gibson signed for cheap for 3 seasons (I think) and with that setup as it is; it made sense for them to move Andersen for a decent return (30th) +. Opens up some salary for them, adds a prospect and gives the torch to Gibson.
win win for both teams. - just saying Andersen is no slouch and will do well in TO. |

The most games he played in one season is 54, two years ago. I guess at that point you could say he was "the guy" at that point for the Ducks.
Last year he started a little less games (43) and was working more of a tandem with Gibson.
This being said, I never saw him as a backup at all. - Scabeh
Yeah. It's when people need to spin it as such to make a quip about "the last time the Leafs traded for a backup from a California team", etc. Factual inaccuracies to suit their narrative.
Happens all the time. I wasn't suggesting that specifically you said it. |

Luckily for them, i can't imagine he hit any of his metrics.
They probably docked some salary for being exceptionally poop at hockeying. |

That's what I am saying too, just from the other side of the coin.
You say this from the perspective of "It's Lou's fault"
I say this from the perspective of "It's a non-story"
In both situations, we should not be talking about it |

More unproven then who? Andersen? (frank) it. Like I said, just pretty jaded. - weirdoh
Yeah, Andersen. We at least know Andersen can start ~50 games and play well when he has a decent defense. That's more than we can say about Bernier. |

I'm on Mathews side 100 percent. I read an article that Lou got mad that Liepsic got a one on one interview on hockey night in Canada. He doesn't think rookies deserve the spotlight.
It's a a league where a 19 year old can come in and be a top 10 player in the league now. - Santo_44
exactly..
you gotta change your philosophies to stay competitive these days. I don't know much about Lous recent work in NJ, but its not like they've been lighting the world on fire. |

Thank you. This Andersen trade just seemed too good to be true, especially when perennial downers like Berger were writing up how he's the best goalie the Leafs have had in eons. |

Absolutely. It's going to be nice having a starting tender capable of playing the majority of games unlike James and Jonathan |

I don't think he hasn't changed philosophies. I was just reading an interview with Shanny where he talks about when Lou was hired, and they all sat down and were like "This isn't New jersey, this isn't Detroit.. It's Toronto"
One other thing he said that stood out "Management didn't all of a sudden become stupid overnight"
The deal will get done. We don't even know any specifics of the negotiations whatsoever. It's all just guesswork. |

If Lou isn't budging on giving him bonuses yes, it is Lou's fault. He only gets his money in the signing bonuse's if he performs. Even if he gets both signing bonuses which the second one is hard to get. He would have to be nominated for awards and be top 10 in the league in scoring for example.
Anyways, even if he hit both them he would still get paid less than everyone that's not on an ELC. It's really a no brainer to give him bonuses. It's how the NHL works and if he dosent get max bonuses it's really a slap in the face. |

Yeah, but what would Leafs fans talk about if there wasn't some commotion following management decisions?
Now we have no media leaks, and the media have no idea what is being planned, we have to at least create some poop. Surely? |

I think he's a great GM in most areas. The guy could be talking about a Rielly for Duchene trade right now and the media wouldn't have a (frank)ing clue. Which is pretty good. We don't even know what the condition on the pick is for the Bernier trade. He's been around for a long time he's a high class GM.
However he needs to let go of the past. It's a different game. |
