I would still take Ennis and his 4.6 cap hit over Nash and Armia and their combined $8.8 million cap hit if I am thinking long term.

You can easily add that depth at the trade deadline for next to nothing. That's how this league works. The teams that aren't contenders ship them out.

This conversation keeps going into pieces.

The whole point I was trying to make is that if you have depth in the AHL, you can afford to lose value on guys like Ennis in order to bring in a Nash type player.

So has Nash. You keep flip flopping on your logic
- sbroads24

I do?

Ennis like Nash has injury concerns.

Nash is on the wrong side of 30

Huge cap hit that they really don't have room for. (unless moving 2 or 3 guys to make room for a broken down pker that will make more holes on the roster is what you want.....who am I kidding of course you do)

Keep on beating the Nash drum though.

Nash should be a very last resort option.

Why anyone would want to help out teams in the East like Boston, NY, Philly when you are in the East and they are your direct competition to make the playoffs is beyond me.

Yes.

Nash had a bad year (Still better than Ennis)
Ennis had a bad year

But Ennis is proven
Yet Nash.....

If I am moving players for Nash I want it to be a player that is on the wrong side of 30. Gorges, Moulson, Gionta

Broken down high paid 2nd liners that kill penalties are not the type of players this team should be looking for.

If Nash was 3 years younger, sure why not. If you could get him at the deadline in 17/18, sure. Let the Rags choke on the cap hit.

He has never said Nash is unproven, the issue with Nash is his age and his contract...

That being said if you can move Moulson for him I would do it.

Proven compared to Armia.

Which was the convo.

Ennis is Nash at this point at a much cheaper cap hit.

I'd rather give Ennis the chance, then waste more assets to get Nash, and have to give other assets away for free to make room for Nash.

The one thing I would say about Nash, though, is that he's a bigger body, which I think still makes him more valuable than Ennis, even at this stage of his career. Enough to justify the disparity in pay? Not necessarily, but player to player, yes.

I'd be ok with this.

I have said this all along though.

Move Moulson and his full hit, bring in Nash then.

That is the question.

Bigger bodies on the wrong side of 30...

I DO NOT hate the idea of Nash.

I don't like the idea of having to move 3 players to be able to fit him in under the cap.

But he's also proven he could have a train wreck year too

It's the same risk as Nash.

You keep saying age.... He isn't dead, he's 32.

You aren't banking on 30 goals, you are banking on 20, with the possibility of 30-35.

It's also possible they retain part of the cap hit. They might absolutely have to

And have little to zero cap space.

This team is not in the category of "Good teams butt up against the cap and make it work yearly".

Why would the Rangers eat half of his salary and then take on a contract to make it work?

It would be about the same cap hit...

Unless they take Franson for this year and eat half of Nash's salary.

It saves them about 4 million in the 2017-2018 season but not much this coming season. It doesn't make sense for the Rangers to do that. They are better off keeping Nash and move him at the deadline.

Who said half and take on salary?

Rangers retain 1.5, you move out Gorges in a separate deal for a mid round pick, and bingo, you have 0 issues.

Brendan Guhle is very possibly pushing for a spot
