They drafted him to score goals. If third liner is his ceiling, he's merely a throw in for any trade that's makes an impact.

Or someone who can play, and play cheaply, and allow you to move out a bad contract.

Depth helps teams win. I'm not arguing that Armia is an All-Star

Ennis has shown what he can do.

Armia couldn't get out of his own way in the AHL.

- dadeadhead

So has Nash. You keep flip flopping on your logic

Armia at 925k > Ennis at 4.6 mil

Ennis had 4 goals in what 20 something games? Since we are just using small sample sizes, I'd say his value is way, way off

- sbroads24

Ennis while it's known is not my favorite averages .55 ppg in his last 3 years.

I would take that over a guy that was drafted to be a goal scorer who now just kills penalties and doesn't generate scoring chances by his lack of shots.

A dime a dozen player.
- dadeadhead

I'd rather have Flynn on my 3rd line than armia

John Scott increased the value of just about every player in the league.

I can see not wanting to give up Girgs, but I would move Franson and Ennis in a heartbeat, because IMO both are gone next year anyways.
Either way, this is why I have been harping on drafting well and not overpaying with prospects and picks over the past 2 years.
It would be nice to add Nash, and have guys ready to step in if you had to clear a bad contract or 2.
Laugh all you want, but who wouldn't swap Ennis for Armia or Compher if it meant saving 2.5-3 mil and adding a bonafide player like Nash?
Who wouldn't swap McNabb for Gorges and save 2.5 mil?
- sbroads24

I wouldn't swap Ennis for Armia. I don't understand your infatuation with Armia. He is not good.
Maybe Compher but he has yet to play a NHL game.
McNabb plays on a team that hides his weaknesses.

- Stripes77

Plus, isn't this exactly what we're doing with Bailey, Nylander, Fasching, etc?
As players like Gionta and Kane come off the books, they will be brought up.
Armia was supposed to be playing in the NHL a year or two ago. Those guys that were traded away didnt fit the timetable. They werent going to sit in Rochester for 1/2 a decade and wait for Ennis contract to expire.

So my question is again....Why can't we move out some guys to get Nash?

It isn't Armia vs. Ennis
It is Nash+ Armia vs Ennis

Brian Flynn went undrafted Armia is first rounder that should have been a 3rd rounder based on him being a depth guy at this point

You can easily add that depth at the trade deadline for next to nothing. That's how this league works. The teams that aren't contenders ship them out.

Yes I would.

I would still take Ennis and his 4.6 cap hit over Nash and Armia and their combined $8.8 million cap hit if I am thinking long term and I like Nash.
