Could you imagine all the sick burns I would've been subjected to if I categorized AMac as competent? I'm consider myself a pretty cool dude, but I'm not strong enough to endure that.
But yeah, unless Provorov outplays 2 or more (of those 7) in camp, Hextall won't bring him up. The defense held up well last year, all things considered. So no real motivation for Hextall to shake that up. I think he's comfortable with what he has. - steelydan
Imagine the fan outrage if Macdonald or even Manning is in the starting line up over Provorov come October...
Very true...sorry if it sounded that way. My point was that when the entire league basically sends everyone down just prior to the season start, there is a lot more players available to pick up...lessening the odds its our guy. Additionally, a 3 game trial on the big stage with a full NHL team complement could be enough for someone who was on the fence to think "lets go after Weal...he is better than we thought". Not saying this would happen....just saying Konecky takes that 100% out of the equation. - juiced
I don't believe that 3 games time will make the difference of a claim verse not being clainmed. Also of they play that we'll they'd earn a spot, no? I think you'd see a guy like Weal or lubyimov (who doesn't require waivers) stick on for the 3 games over konecky. If konecky isn't ready 3 games won't make him ready. Where as a guy like Weal or luby may earn a bottom 6 role over someone who may have a slight edge after camp. Especially considering luby coming from Russia not speaking English

Not sure why my phone corrects the spelling that way
I'm sorry. How does the bolded statement differ from what I stated? When I stated that he had to outplay 2 of the 7, it means that he needs to play better than Manning and A-Mac to allow him to be the 6th man (since common sense would state that they wouldn't bring him up to just have him watch from the rafters).
And how does the state of the current defense not directly affect the decision to keep him up? Hextall preaches competition until he's red in the face. There would be no need for him to bring up Provorov to compete in camp if he didn't want him to make the team; he would have simply found another fringe guy in Free Agency. - steelydan
Specifically this "The defense held up well last year, all things considered. So no real motivation for Hextall to shake that up. I think he's comfortable with what he has."
I don't think the current state of the Flyers defense has anything to do with it and certainly shouldnt motivate Hextalls decision. You mention they were good enough so Provorov would have to outplay the incumbents. It works the same way....if they were bad he wouldn't put Provorov in. Hextall has to feel that Provorov the individual is ready and will benefit from playing in the NHL. The decision is not going to be based on him just playing better than the rest of the guys in camp, because that's not the same as a full season
ill level with you and assume u meant top prospects who will make the team.
i think provorov is a lock, altho other people will say its a wait and see. of course its a wait and see obviously, but i think it would be disappointing if he wasnt on the big club come october.
id say thats it who i think is a lock, others who have a good chance are guys like:
Travis Konecny
Robert Hagg
Travis Sanheim
Sanheim hasnt had a full AHL season yet, he did come up for 4 games last year and put up 3 points, and he has added over 25 pounds of muscle since being drafted, and coaches have said hes doing everything theyve asked. Hagg i believe needs another year in the AHL unless he just wows everyone come the preseason. Konecny is a guy i think would make half of the nhl rosters this year no doubt, but with Hexy, my bet is he is sent to juniors regardless of what he does. unless he is hands and feet the best player he has ever seen, think there isnt a chance he makes the roster, although he is best qualified to play. confusing i know.
id list some dark horses, but with Hexy, there really arent many guys who would even sniff the nhl roster until theyre completely ready. guys like
Sam Morin
Taylor Leier
Nicolas Aube-Kubel
Radel Fazleev
Oskar Lindblom unfortunately will be overseas

Even if Provorov outplays other players in the pre-season, that is not going to determine if he stays or goes. They will evaluate Provorov, and if they have doubts about him being ready for regular season NHL hockey, which is a clear step above pre season NHL hockey, then he will be sent down. Despite outplaying other players.

How do you plan on changing the system of who is right? Do you plan to close the loopholes that some of the bigger posters use and finally hold them accountable for being wrong?
What about the season ticket holders paying their fair share? Should we really build a wall between STH and non-STH aka the ones taking our posts!
