....Konecky wouldn't have to go through waivers to be sent back...we may have to risk a Weal, Miele or someone else if they got the call up. Still don't think Hexy does it but it saves the risky waive.

They would either way if they get assigned to the Phantoms to begin with..

Very true...sorry if it sounded that way. My point was that when the entire league basically sends everyone down just prior to the season start, there is a lot more players available to pick up...lessening the odds its our guy. Additionally, a 3 game trial on the big stage with a full NHL team complement could be enough for someone who was on the fence to think "lets go after Weal...he is better than we thought". Not saying this would happen....just saying Konecky takes that 100% out of the equation.

I wonder if Schenn's suspension plays a role in Hextall using the 9 game window to start the season.

I doubt it results in a 9 game look for anyone in aprticular, but maybe Schenn being out could see a guy like Weal or Miele stick to start the season, then get waived and sent down

Might see Bellemare or Vandevelde up on the top line to start the season. Thinking Hakstol will want to establish everyone else in their expected starting roles. Leier would be the prospect I give a shot if they go that route, since he's a natural LW. I'm sure camp will mix things up quite a bit though.

Bellemare(Schenn)-Giroux-Simmonds
Raffl-Couturier-Voracek
Read-Cousins-Weise
Laughton-Gordon-Lyubimov
Vandevelde

I think so. I think you vouched for putting a 4th liner/13th forward on our top line.

Unless that was sarcasm, I don't even.

Vandevelde has played with Giroux for random few game stints before. Both have Hakstol's trust which means either could be moved up the line up in a pinch. This isn't a permanent solution, it's one that allows the rest of the assembled line up to establish chemistry until Schenn returns.

Since VDV will be in LHV, gonna be real hard to play on the top line on the Flyers

Definitely not opposed to that and what I posed above isn't my preference. It's my prediction based on my observations of Hakstol's line up decisions from last season.

They're going to have to risk waivers for a lot of the guys ticketed for the Phantoms, like Miele & Brennan anyhow.

The thing is, if a team claims Miele or Weal, they'd have to stay in the NHL. They can't claim a dude and send him down

I don't know if anyone has ever told you this, but I feel it's important: your gif game is bad. The images you post rarely make any sense in context, they're not funny, awkwardly random, and often skirt the line of poor taste.

But I'm telling you this so you can work on it! If you're going to be a season ticket holder on hockeybuzz, there's a standard you must live up to.

I would say that's 7 competent NHL defenseman, but that's neither here nor there. Competence is not a high bench mark. Hextall has said, if a young player proves he belongs on the team, he will make the moves necessary to keep the player. I get what you're saying, but I think if Provorov forces Hextall to keep him, moves will be made.
- MJL

Could you imagine all the sick burns I would've been subjected to if I categorized AMac as competent? I'm consider myself a pretty cool dude, but I'm not strong enough to endure that.

But yeah, unless Provorov outplays 2 or more (of those 7) in camp, Hextall won't bring him up. The defense held up well last year, all things considered. So no real motivation for Hextall to shake that up. I think he's comfortable with what he has.

I dont really think the state of the defense has much to do with the decision. If Provorov playing on the Flyers is best for the team and his development...he stays

I'm sorry. How does the bolded statement differ from what I stated? When I stated that he had to outplay 2 of the 7, it means that he needs to play better than Manning and A-Mac to allow him to be the 6th man (since common sense would state that they wouldn't bring him up to just have him watch from the rafters).

And how does the state of the current defense not directly affect the decision to keep him up? Hextall preaches competition until he's red in the face. There would be no need for him to bring up Provorov to compete in camp if he didn't want him to make the team; he would have simply found another fringe guy in Free Agency.
