Who had more hype as a prospect Giroux or Konecny? - johm12
Well Konecnys name was pronounced correctly when drafted |

Seriously. Provy will be on the team next year -- get with the program. What we should be debating is whether or not Salinitri makes the team out of camp. - Mononoke

Well, because the Flyers went off the board a bit choosing G, so much so that Clarke couldn't get his name right at the podium, I'd say early on, Konecny had the jump on hype.
Afterwards, 50/50. |

Every prospect is different. Provorov is unique in that he has the nhl body at 19. He seemingly has a great head on his shoulders. He would have to completely bomb in camp and the preseason for him to not get that 9 game or whatever it is look see. His chances are very good because he is coming off a spectacular year in which he also stayed healthy. This is no 2007 165lb giroux - Just5
In my opinion, I don't see Hextall using the 9 game tryout but I could be wrong. Provorov either makes the team outright in camp, or he goes back to Juniors. Using the 9 game tryout, means that you're not sure about a player's readiness for the NHL. If we listen to everything Hextall has said, any doubts in camp, means Provorov goes back to Juniors. |

I dont think they use the 9 game tryout on anyone either...but one small caveat is the Schenn suspension |

There are 5 competent defensemen under contract this year (Streit, MDZ, Gudas, Schultz, Ghost) along with AMac and Manning. Nothing Hextall has shown, to date, should lead anyone to believe that Provorov will be starting on the Flyers this upcoming season unless he shines at camp. It's that simple. People should temper expectations if they think he's a lock. - steelydan
I would say that's 7 competent NHL defenseman, but that's neither here nor there. Competence is not a high bench mark. Hextall has said, if a young player proves he belongs on the team, he will make the moves necessary to keep the player. I get what you're saying, but I think if Provorov forces Hextall to keep him, moves will be made. |

Hextall has said that he doesn't like the 9-game tryout because he'd rather the player start playing with the team he'll be with all season. Naturally, if Provorov makes the team out of camp and struggles, they have the 9-game period to send him back, but Hextall doesn't seem to view it as a tryout tool. |

That gives the Flyers a roster spot for 3 games, but they may have to use that for a forward. |

That Simmonds car story should be more well known. Incredible.
Not once have I heard Regis talk about that... it's something that deserves a Players Tribune article.

Hextall is not at all a proponent of the nine-game trial or "easing" a player into the lineup. Said so in some detail last July. In his view, they guy is either ready or he's in junior (or AHL). |

I wonder if Schenn's suspension plays a role in Hextall using the 9 game window to start the season.
I doubt it results in a 9 game look for anyone in aprticular, but maybe Schenn being out could see a guy like Weal or Miele stick to start the season, then get waived and sent down |

+1 I don't think you see a konecky Trial but could see a guy whose 12th 13th man or top 6 ahl getting a shot |

....Konecky wouldn't have to go through waivers to be sent back...we may have to risk a Weal, Miele or someone else if they got the call up. Still don't think Hexy does it but it saves the risky waive. |
