What's changed? Other than Nylander who isn't ready for 1st line even strength duty who's taking Komorov's icetime? Nylander may take his PP time & if not him then Matthews but Komorov should still get at least 2nd line duty.

With all the other prospects currently in the system far closer to being NHL ready does Marner Toronto's future #1 RW get anything more than his 9 game cup of coffee? Might this just become a business decision as opposed to hockey decision. Would be nice to slide his ELC for yet another year.

Robidas has a degenerative leg injury. The NHL isn't allowing any team to fictitiously bury a player with out legitimate injury on LTIR. Nor is the players agent nor the NHLPA.

So no burying Lupul if fit to play. He had abdominal surgery. That isn't career threatening he baring another injury before camp during camp or later which the odds favor well no Robidas Island for anyone.

I'm just not sold on Komarov having the talent for 2nd line, let alone 1st line. Also, Kadri is not a 1st line centre. They pretty much got that by default last season.

Did Komorov not play RW with JVR & Bozak last season forming Toronto's #1 line when all were healthy? Was it not a great line? Why would Babcock alter that mix?

Michalek has played LW his entire time in Ottawa.

This is what I have today but were a long way from opening day & changes are coming.

JVR, Bozak, Komorov.
Michalek, Kadri, Nylander.
Greening, Matthews, Lupul.

Of all the line ups I've posted....your's is probably more close to realistic without more moves.

Your lineup is going to suck though but with a couple of tweaks it could be much better.

Lupul in:

Lupul, Kadri, Komarov
JVR, Bozak, Marner.
Greening, Matthews, Nylander
Michalek, Laich, Martin

The bolded guys are the players that will definitely be paired together IMO. All others will move subject to injury. trades and/or quality of play.

Babcock said Matthews on the 3rd line and Nylander on his wing so have to put them together.

Bozak and JVR have always been paired together. Same with Kadri and Komarov.



Lupul out, Michalek out and my preferred line up:

Komarov, Kadri, Marner
JVR, Matthews, Nylander
Hyman/Sosh, Bozak, Brown
Greening, Laich, Martin


All the other wingers are interchaneable. Marner with Matthews, Nylander with Bozak. Rychel with Matthews and Marner. Hyman with Matthews and Marner.

Agreed but again what's changed? Is Toronto not in essentially the same place as last season just starting the year breaking in 2 of their stud rookies in Matthews & Nylander as opposed to short term signings last season like Parenteau, Matthias, Boyes, Spalling, etc.

Babcock has already said Matthews starts as the #3 C, Nylander is slated for a role at RW for a few years. Kadri played as Toronto's #2/3 C last season although had the most TOI/GP of any forward & I assume #2 this season baring a trade of Bozak.

Komorov & Bozak are still guaranteed quality icetime until traded; Boazk or players are ready to take Komorov's role.

The chances of Babcock pairing 2 rookies together in Matthews & Nylander is highly unlikely. That would be a disaster defensively. That sounds like the EDM's model to me. He will want to shelter both.

Quite frankly, the jets are stuffed with Forwards, and Wheeler + Little + Stafford are vets. Scheifele is a budding superstar, as is Ehlers. They were on fire to end the season.

Babcock did say he's starting Nylander on Matthews RW to start camp. Camp is going to be shorter for a lot of guys with the Worlds. So there is a chance. I could see them paired with a vet on the "third line" playing fairly protected minutes to start the year.
