Pump and dump

Did Komorov not play RW with JVR & Bozak last season forming Toronto's #1 line when all were healthy? Was it not a great line? Why would Babcock alter that mix?

Michalek has played LW his entire time in Ottawa.

This is what I have today but were a long way from opening day & changes are coming.

JVR, Bozak, Komorov.
Michalek, Kadri, Nylander.
Greening, Matthews, Lupul.
Martin, Laich, Holland.
Spare. Froese.

By no means do I expect this to be the opening day roster but based on the current players, waiver rights, etc until player personal decisions are made & players either traded, waived & sent down this is what I see.

Lupul, Greening, Laich, Holland & Froese could all be waived & sent down opening up roster spots but based on how Babcock used Greening last season that would surprise me.

Not to mention Babcock like most NHL coaches likes to deploy pairings rotating the 2nd winger as situations dictate. Injuries, illness, penalties for or against or simply coaches prerogative or instinct.

If they are looking to tank again and play out the vets like they did last year then this is a pretty accurate depiction. If not, Soshnikov, Hyman and Brown will most certainly be in the lineup. Somethings gotta give.

Thought so too.......until Babs said he'll start camp on Matthews' RW. I don't see Matthews being the 3C very long though, if at all. We just have to wait and see how it all plays out. I still think there will be personnel changes before camp opens up. Also, like another poster said, I don't think the distribution of ice time among the first 3 lines will be very far apart this season. It will be more about Babs establishing duos and finding that 3rd complimentary linemate for them.

Peeps are getting way too caught up in line numbers.

It'll be largely role-playing and ice-time will be distributed according to the systems that Babcock employs. Namely:

JVR Bozak (Marner): scoring line, lots of OZ starts, PP minutes. 15+ minutes a game.

Komarov Kadri (Soshnikov/Brown): shutdown tandem who will continue to play against top lines again. Could see Marner here too from time to time; he's no slouch defensively. 18+ minutes a game.

Vet Matthews Nylander: scoring line, lots of soft minutes to start. 12-14 mins a game to start.

Vet Vet (Hyman): Probably a Babcock favourite to eat minutes, 10-12 minutes a game.

I don't see going with any more rookies than that.
