Everything you're saying is
- Phatjohnsn[what if] [negative scenario]. Most of which are just as likely as [what if] [positive scenario]. I think that is why everyone is taking issue.

The older folk around here are supposed to be the cynics, not the younger ones.

The older guys are used to failures and stuff like that they have all seen it before Lol

That's why they're chill

Cabin you keep on saying that but if you look at the playoffs the evidence is there

I look at it this way. Any goalie that DIDN'T win the cup this past season is no better than what we have now.

what happens if an A-bomb lands on NYC when the capitals are playing the rangers? i bet neither one of those teams makes the playoffs then

Gerbe is right
Pretending that goaltending isn't a big question mark for us is foolish
Lehner hasn't been good for a full season in quite a while
Can he be?
To be determined...

That's where I have ours ranked as

That's IF Lehner can stay healthy
And perform for a full season at a top level

That's a big IF
I don't think he sucks,
But he certainly has much to prove before we can call him a top10 goalie

I'd be a lot happier w Lehner if we still had a good backup just in case he gets hurt again

Here's a crazy idea...rather than saying its a foregone conclusion...

lets wait to see what happens this season and if we need to address the keeper issue afterwards....most people on here don't honestly believe this is the season for the cup do they?

The funny thing about this is that Chad Johnson wasn't exactly great when he joined Buffalo... but THIS year when Lehner is supposedly healthy heading into the season and able to do the off-season conditioning required, we are worried about "how bad" our backup goalie is.

This is a solid point.

Johnson's stats on the Island were down right awful.

Flyers can't decide who is going to be their starter that's why they flip flopped, also neither could stay healthy.

Mason cost them BIG time in the playoffs

The goaltending in Dallas is so bad they are trying to trade for Bishop...

Flyers they have two guys that could be a starter correct ?

I think everyone should look at the teams on top of the list that are in the playoffs they had a good backup situation

http://www.hockey-referen...ues/NHL_2016_goalies.html

5 of the guys ahead of Lehner on the list sorted by SV% shouldn't even count.

Johnson definitely played well for us last year but the way people here judge players on their past, we should all expect a .10 decrease in his SV% this year as that would put him closer to his career average ... and below Linus Ullmark who everyone seems to gloss over

Even though Lehner is talented,
He's far from proven

Why wouldn't we want a solid backup?

We have a backup level talent in or organization - Ullmark.

Look at the vaunted Philly goalies that are being discussed. Lehner had a better SV% than Neuvirth who only played 11 more games.

Ullmark in 20 games posted a .913 SV% to Steve Mason's .918 in 54 games. I'd argue if we had a 41 win team, our goaltenders #s would be slightly better.

Overall my point is that we have the guys to do it if it has to be done. The position has lost its talent discrepancy rapidly. Tons of guys fill-in at respectable levels these days and the disparity between top and bottom isn't all that huge.

He's not going to play every game. Nobody is saying that. You're saying that if we lose him our team is ruined. I don't think that is true, EVEN if you don't think Nilsson is a suitable replacement. Nilsson should never see more than 15 games, regardless of Lehner's status.

And if your argument is "what if Ullmark sucks?" I will say "what if proves he is a capable NHL goalie this year?"... you have no way of knowing.

Update I have gotten.
Cam Fowler- Ducks want way too much, and in that Girgensons is a main piece.
Nash- Buffalo really really wants him. Players have even talked to Nash as 'Friends'. He DID NOT visit Buffalo as rumored. An issue with this and other teams is they afraid of Ennis and his injury. You never know if it is career ending (it could be that bad). And how he did it is a true story no sugar coating.
Vesey- Sabres offered every detail to what he would get with Buffalo. Vesey 'verbally' agreed and said he will finish his process but likes the offer. Sabres feel very good that he will be with Buffalo, but we all know how verbal contracts go as of late [insert Babcock jokes]. Speaking of which, Babcock did have a verbal agreement and all paperwork ready, and Toronto snuck in last minute and offered more with more control.
As of late Sabres have had talks with Dallas and Calgary. No details could be provided and these are premature talks thus far and they couldn't provide info.
Also- keep an eye out for a couple moves , or attempts, on some players no one would ever expect. Exact words, 'in todays NHL when you can trade Subban straight up for Weber, anything can happen.'
