Are the Bruins better or worse with Eriksson replaced by Backes?
- Scabeh

I think they have some young players that can pick up the scoring we parted with when he left. On the other hand, I think the defensive responsibility Backes brings could help mask a glaring gap of talent on the back end. It's sad when you look at the forwards you have and have more faith in their defensive capabilities than most of your dmen.

We didn't have an issue scoring and I don't see his absence having any major effect on that and I think Backes may bring a new sense of identity to the team and make us "harder" to play against. All in all we're (frank)ed because our defense is an absolute joke.

The term on that Backes deal though

Edit: I realize I didn't answer your question. I'm channeling my inner 2016 politician. I'd honestly say better and I think Vesey comes to Boston and adds some much needed depth to the wing. It's tough to pinpoint what Bruins team you're going to get. Sometimes last year they looked like a playoff team and others they looked like a basement dweller.

Imagine a world where Buffalo Sabres GM Tim Murray poaches an RFA D or forward from a competitor.

Murray is a sniper. He studies the market like a stock broker. Murray knows that salary cap strapped teams like NY Rangers and St. Louis Blues are pinching their pennies right now. Murray will do his best to mess with the caps of those teams who are up against the $73 million salary cap.

It's a risky move to consider Vesey could replace Eriksson's production but I see where you're getting at.

I think short term the Bruins might be better because Backes is a very good player and, as you said, can be used in numerous situations.

Their defense is scaring me with Chara slowing down every year and I have no faith in Rask being a real difference maker for Boston with an average defense in front of him.

I know you guys were in cap hell but it's crazy how many good players Boston shipped out over the years who could really be helping this team right now (Seguin, Boychuk, Hamilton to name a few....)

Murray is hyperaggressive and it's cost him.

Hey MiB,

I was wondering if you think they should trade Kadri. He's easily not the rightest guy on the team. With a big contract. Do you think the Leafs trade him? Would you be happy if they did?

If he could bring in a good defenseman in return, I'd do it.
