And that is exactly my point. People say that it would hurt his development, but there's nothing tangible to prove that this is a phenomenon that occurs.
Sometimes, the fact that there is no definitive answer is the very reason that it's a good question - it forces people to think outside of the box - lumlums

JvR - Kadri - Nylander
Koimarov - Matthews - Marner
Lupul - Bozak - Brown
Martin - Laich - Sosh
That's how I'd roll anyway. I remember Babs saying that Marner/Matthews will be started together in camp... - lumlums
EXACTLY!
Marner makes the team.

I will tell you guys as well that after 1season on wing, Marner will end up playing C.
If there is any comparison in skill - strength/weight/height to be made, it should be Claude Giroux.

30 potential points last year were given up in 1 goal regulation losses. That's not counting extra time, that's not counting empty netters that widened the margin.
Basically Andersen stopping a few pucks here and there and some of the kids scoring (or even a healthy JVR) could cause the Leafs to overachieve
Pragmatic thinking would suggest a moderate improvement, however.
For what it is worth, almost all of the articles I read based on development camp and what Babcock had to say would suggest that Matthews, Marner and Nylander will all be on the opening roster. Granted, he never outright says that any of them will be, but the message came across. - WingmanWillie
Keep in mind that if we're icing a team of 4+ rookies, our goals against is likely to go up quite a bit, even with a better goalie. We had some pretty meh veterans on the team last season, that despite the kids obviously being better than skill wise, are probably years ahead when it comes to playing a responsible defensive system.

JVR - Kadri - Lupul
Michalek - Bozak - Marner
Komarov - Matthews - Nylander
Martin - Laich - Hyman.
Greening, Rychel. 13-14FW.
Soshnikov, Brown, Leivo AHL.
Unless Leafs are able to trade Lupul / Michalek (/Bozak) I think this is the lineup we're looking at for the Leafs in Oct. - MaximusAurelius
Why have Rychel up, when Soshnikov had almost 3 times his production? |

At least you have a coach and management that will play the kids as opposed to sitting their ass in the press box/minimal ice time. |

Dude, you can't really tell any of us anything after that aberration of a post above where you consider the Leafs to have been rebuilding since 2008.
Despite an entirely different staff from top to bottom and not one single remaining player.
Your credibility with regards to hockey is gone.
Solid business advice last week though, I'll give ya that. |

Pre-draft scouting report on Giroux.. sounds quite similar to what's being said about Marner:
Giroux's greatest talent is his playmaking ability. Boasting excellent hands and great vision, the diminutive winger is able to use his quick skating ability to turn something out of nothing. Giroux, despite his size disadvantage, does not mind getting his nose dirty, and will stand in to take a hit in order to make a play. He does get bodied often, but the shifty winger is agile enough to avoid checks on a regular basis.
I hope you didn't take the counter-offer |

I'm just bustin' ya chops, though I definitely don't think you can lump the two Leafs regimes together.
Marner may end up a C, but he didn't even really play it the last couple of years in the O. So it seems doubtful.
I didn't actually receive a counter despite being told I'd have one end of day Friday. Made my choice pretty damn easy |

For me it’s 2 things:
i) Let guys develop at their own pace. Each player will be different. Let players complete their development in their current league before moving to them to the next league.
ii) Move players up when they earn a roster spot. Given the state of the roster, this seems pretty achievable for someone with marner’s skill set. If this was a veteran SC contending team, another year of junior would probably be more likely imo. - Tumbleweed
Yeah, I think that it's fair to say that Marner has achieved everything that he could want at the CHL level, but that's not to say that if he was to go back, that his development would stagnate as a consequence of that. Hell, Domi did two years after draft there and it didn't seem to hurt him too much. Now if he were on a team such as Flint, I'd say to get him out of there ASAP, but London have a pro set-up and he can be in close communication with Hunter/Dubas at all times if necessary... |

There has to be some Russianesque factor to a player playing on that team. Purely because of the murder statistics alone. The Flint Factor |
