It's a loss. You can't predict what would have happened if they stayed. Staff would have been unloaded anyways so really the only downgrade was from Myers to Bogo, and Bogo wasn't bad to end that year anyway.

The problem isn't that we lost any of those pieces, it's that we lost what there value was at the time.

A 1st in a loaded draft could have been enough to move for a goal scorer that's equal or better than Kane.

Good thing is, with this offseason, it might become irrelevant.

All depends on Bailey, Guhle, Vesey etc.

Gerbe was a finalist.

Kevin Porter won a Hobey Baker.

The importance of the trophy is at an all time high as the quality of college hockey becomes increasingly close the the quality of major junior.

Of course you can't predict what would've happened, but think about some of those games at the end of that season. With Stafford (who was likely gone anyways) and Myers both adding a few points, we may have squeaked into 29th. And you're saying "at the time", well at the time, Kane was out with injury. It was "at the time" a great move, and I'm still 100% for it based on the outcome of it. Even in its current form. Eichel is everything.

Listen, it's a loss, but not a complete loss. Let's see how the season plays out before we deem it a complete "failure."

I think it's OK to just chalk up and L for it.

With the draft this year, adding Okposo, and possibly Vesey, Murray has done a solid job.

And I'm glad of all of Darcy's picks he's moved, he didn't touch Bailey.

I was worried for a while it would be a trade that got looked back on and really effected us competing for a cup. I don't think that way now

It also wasn't a deadline move. You likely had Stafford for another few weeks. The goal was 30th, and this helped, while getting a top 4 pick with loads of potential. Let's see/hope Kane can get his poop together this season.

I get what you're saying, and I think we agree that it's not a big deal in the long run here, but again, I can't give it a complete loss. It's disappointing that Kane may in fact be a complete head case, but I don't hate any of the pieces involved.

To the future!!

I think this forward group with ROR, Eich, Reinhart, Nylander, Okposo is solid for years to come.

Still gotta work on that Blue line to win a cup, they have a year to find a competent #2

Agreed. The market is $$$ though. Maybe McCabe can make the jump the in the next season or two.

and depending upon how Lehner does this year with health.... we may be in need of a goaltending upgrade.

but i would worry about the D first

I'd still expect Ullmark up if Lehner goes down. Goalies are the last piece so until he goes down I'd just ride with Lehner and whatever his name is.

Yup.

Right now they have 4 2nd pairing guys. Hopefully Risto keeps developing and makes the jump to be a legit top pairing defensemen. But you still need to find his partner.

Looking up some Rochester guys to get an idea what the team will look like and this is what it says on Matt Donovan's wikipedia page:

It is a well known fact that his grandparents like him better than their other grandchildren, causing some resentment and some awkwardness at family holiday parties.

Pretty much. Or a guy that can do it all and be on the 2nd pair.

I don't think we have to find Risto a partner as much as just find another guy that can score and defend and eat minutes on another pair.
