Given the chance I think Bernier can rebound, but this trade had to happen. Splitting time between two guys is a recipe for failure. - Feeling Glucky?

Except these are clearly linked, with Anaheim just not wanting to pay this year's signing bonus. - Feeling Glucky?
You really don't think the Leafs shopped him around since the Andersen trade? Separate trade calls = separate deals. Rest are just semantics. |

But, in reality the trades are:
To TOR: Andersen
To ANA: 30th pick in 2016, SJS 2nd rd pick in 2017
To TOR: Conditional Pick
To ANA: Bernier
Can we cut out bundling unrelated trades?
The Oilers didn't get Lucic, Puljuarvi and Larsen for Hall either. Three. Separate. Transactions. - Deeps27
I wasn't witty enough to come up with some deals. But thank you for saying it. |

So how does cap hit work?
Do we take any kind of hit on this year's salary? |

$2M bonus paid, $4.15M cap hit still, $2.15M in salary...no reports of retained salary so far. Good deal*.
*Assuming that doesn't mean Russell is going to eat that space. |

On a personal note, the Leafs' home opener is a big deal for me. I've been to about the last 15-20 of them.
To quote the old Bauer commercial, "If I gave you a fresh sheet, what would you write?"
The home opener is special. Hope is still alive. For one night, you shut your brain off, and listen only to your heart.
Bernier franking ruined that this year with the first shot. The first franking shot on him. And it wasn't that it was a great shot, or he had bad luck. He let it in because he just didn't care enough. He didn't care enough to get psyched up for the game. He didn't care enough to take that game seriously.
As far as I was concerned, the entire season was a write-off after that shot. The fans knew it, and more importantly, the players knew it.
I can forgive a lot of things. Not being mentally prepared is not one of them.
Bernier can go frank himself. I've hated a lot of Leafs over the years, but he's easily in the top 5.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. - Atomic Wedgie
