There were tweets literally saying he turned down the offer for Hall. (frank)ing idiot. But no Larrson is better

- Cptmjl

Are you stunned?, nobody said Larrson was better.

I think he's traded away far more talent than he's traded for in his gm career. Just my opinion.

Peter Chiarelli inherited Bergeron and Krecji, had an excellent draft in his first year ( hired in May....do you really think he over rode the scouts that wanted Lucic, Marchand and the no brainer Kessel picks?), signed Chara as a free agent and that was pretty much it.

Way over rated, IMO, and it was a poop hire by the Oilers.

It's a tough call, because wasn't benning his head scout? i have no idea who to credit for that cup team

Lady Luck? Think about it. You're lucky if you land an UFA to some degree. Drafting in the later rounds is mostly luck, and you're lucky if a team trades you a hot prospect because they are desperate for your poopty roster player, and your lucky if your team is healthy.

Every championship team has been lucky at some point. Plenty of brilliant hockey guys couldn't build winner because of bad luck or circumstances beyond their control.

I think luck can definitely play a part in it, at some point though you would have thought of that was the case milbury wouldn't have been so extraordinarily consistently awful.

Well it's pretty easy to trade away great players, that doesn't take luck.

Even trades are all about timing. Like right place, right time kinda stuff ( Boychuck/Leddy, PK Subban , Taylor Hall come to mind). Catching teams that are desperate and having the piece they think they want.

I thought he stunk for Boston and left them in a mess with cap and system, surprised the oilers hired him

To be fair upstate there isn't a team that won the cup that doesn't have cap issues.

I slightly disagree bc BOS has a ton of talent and in a cap era, his talent was getting paid. Chia may have not been good on evaluating his roster properly but BOS has a few studs that will or have gotten paid.....

Injuries to Savard & Seidenberg hurt them bc if they were healthy could have been dealt off instead of kept. Other talent emerged and hinder Chia from shedding what was necessary instead of losing what he shouldn't have.....
Another big mistake now is still keeping Chara, as good as he is, age & salary factors in and team should have moved on....
Sometimes bold or unpopular moves most likely helps a franchise moving forward than hurts (in my opinion)

Agree ur, did he made some dumb moves yes but here are some things that he did help build the Bruins, first that comes to mind is hiring Julien as coach.
Trading for Boychuck, signing Mark Savard, Mark Recchi at the deadline, trading for Chris Kelly, trade for Siemensburg and Bartkowski to solidify the defense and give it depth. These players were all part of the Cup team. He gets credit for these moves and he won a cup. If a GM has balls to make trades to improve his team they are going to make mistakes.
His drafting Marchand, Lucic and signing Chara to an extension were also pretty good moves as well.

Is he making bold moves in Edmonton hell yeah but if they win a cup in 3-5 years he will be a genius, if they don't at least he gave it a shot and just didn't go with the status quote

Should have kept Hamilton although it was rumored he wasn't well liked and didn't kill it in Calgary this year.

Also, that guy Character must have been quite a character....

Agreed, Im a firm believer that if a kid can produce exactly how a veteran can and the vet is much older, time to move on and keep the kid, now sometimes it doesn't always work like that but that's how you keep the cycle of players going (again my opinion)....
