I told you I think Larson will be a good player for The Oilers and is yet to be seen how lop sided this deal really is or isn't.
Also would have traded Hamonic straight up for Hall.
If any buddy is bias it's you, really
Now go away !

I agree...there's no way to know what exactly was offered, who declined if someone did, or what else was asked for if anything

we can debate on what was reported but you're correct it's absolutely not fact unless one of us was in the room.

- Isles_since_6

All we can do is piece together vague remarks and listen to "insiders " guesswork and draw conclusions (even if I believed said insiders are worth much/ which for the most part I don't)

That said, I think chiarellis first choice was larsson and he turned down hall for hamonic. For a bunch of reasons.

Clearly, I'm in the minority in this thread

All good though. I could be wrong

Yup, we think the evidence is pretty strong that Hall was offered for Hamonic. Lots of bits and pieces point to this, including Chiarelli's and Snow's previous dealings and good working relationship, Staple's report, etc. Also, any denials by Chiarelli need be taken with a grain of salt for obvious reasons, as we previously discussed.

None of the above makes it fact, but you know the old saying.... If it walks like a duck...

Well yeah bcs most GM'S would pick Larrson over Hamonic. Completely sensible. It's become abundantly clear that no Oilers fans watch eastern conference games. Do you read THN or any other hockey outlet or site besides hockeybuzz? Serious question.

While I'm on the other side.

I think the evidence is rather weak to suggest as such.

Staples report that said he wasn't sure if any swap discussions for those two actually took place? That report?

Chiarelli also never denied anything per se. All he did say was that other than larsson, no other serious discussions even really took place.
(Although that could mean he offered hall and was immediately rebuffed)

But I can agree that the two have made deals in the last and probably do have a good working relationship . We agree there

Yes I know, you love your player. There's no possible way anyone could want someone other than your home team guy.

Ceiling and potential is just background noise and couldn't possibly be part of any rational considerstions etc etc

Essentially youve decided your bias is somehow akin to knowledge .
But seriously, I'd rather not get into fanbase knowledge . It's a wasted effort . Throwing stones at entire fanbases isn't productive
As far as which gms- I don't know for sure. I haven't heard any comment on the two specifically in comparison.
However, I do think one wanted larsson more though. The rest don't really matter much.

I know where you stand already

It's fine

Will someone post the Staple tweets where he said Snow turned down an offer for Hall. Again having issues with my phone.

It's not a home town thing. We actually watch both players well at least I do constamtly. I watch Devils games. Like I said Larrson is good but if you think this is a debate you're completely out to lunch and you're making yourself look dumb
It's not a homer thing. No homo man I swear . Most of us were pissed Snow didn't pull the trigger on Chias silly offer.

By the way. Your posts rule and my troll is weak and you are super intelligent and I'm an idiot. Wanted you to feel comfortable. Like you were on your own thread

This is Staple in Newsday just 2 days ago....

"...But Hamonic told Snow he wanted to stay that day and that was that. You can be sure that Snow tried to offer up a package revolving around another young Isles defenseman but Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli wanted Hamonic and there was no way -- let me repeat, no way -- Snow was going to discount the emotional toll it took on his defenseman to make the request, play a very strong season, rescind said request and then trade Hamonic anyway...." I think it is a debate.
I think larsson has a higher ceiling. Which was probably a huge factor in chiarellis decision to pull the trigger on a deal that's a loss at face value ( for either player)

As I've days before- even if I put much stock in insiders guesses, which I don't, he mentioned it as guesswork . And was pretty clear about it.
And neither did any oilers insiders state that offer.
That are of course as plugged in with the chiarelli is as staples is with snow

Just curious, when trading a top 5 left winger in the nhl, would you trust the gm to make the trade based on potential after he clearly misjudged Reinhart a year ago? he doesn't seem to do very well in trades.

The guy got himself a ring. And had a a squad that was one of the oaky dominant in the league over a few seasons.
Which he essentially built. Which is more than many many gms can say.
Ill hold off on calling him an idiot and a bad judge of talent for now

Plus, anothey smallish forward at pick 15 was not the answer.
The deal doesn't look amazing right now. And he wanted to make a mark on a struggling team

I'll give it some time

From earlier in the same column by Staple....

"...Of course that one, Taylor Hall, was on the Isles’ radar. That Edmonton traded Hall to the Devils for what seems like an underwhelming return in young defenseman Adam Larsson boiled the blood of more than a few Islanders fans.

From what I understand, the only Isles defenseman the Oilers wanted in a Hall deal was Travis Hamonic. I’m not sure if that swap was discussed back in October, right after Hamonic informed Snow of his trade request for personal reasons, but even if it were, Snow wouldn’t have done it on the eve of the season...."

I've mentioned the grain of salt with any insiders
