I hardly doubt Marner and Nylander look to Polak as a guy who sets examples..

He might teach them how to hits guys from behind or something

- Tanooki

talking about off the ice only

Polak apparently in the gym a lot and poop like that .. much like Clune...pretty useless on the ice... but seems like hes been told to mould the kids off the ice

He might not teach them how to play, but you need guys to teach younger players how to act like professionnals.

Seeing their dedication to training, getting better, keeping in great shape. Young players will benefit from that.

Imo that's what was missing in Edmonton and what made the differente in Florida.

So thats the leaverage Lou is using.

I kinda hope Matthews stands his ground.

- Tanooki

You hope the Leafs have to pay Matthews more, rather than less?

As far as i can tell, that may be the first point he has ever registered at any level.

Young players these days grew up doing all that already tho..

I don't think Polak is going to teach Nylander anything about being in shape or professional. I think people undermine young players, like they dont know how to stay fit etc.. And if they were to bring a guy in like that i wouldnt be (frank)ing Polak..

I actually hate the signing. I think it'll solve nothing and just slow the D down a bit.

yeah..

It's just a battle of respect. I think Lou needs to know that although he is in charge, he still needs to compromise. He needs to understand that the league has changed and that guys like Matthews are worth far more than he can ever be.

Meh. It's only for one year. Flip for some picks at the TDL. Then either drop down to get 16 5th round picks or select someone who is 39.

I heard Shanahan on the radio yesterday.

He basically told everyone to relax. The signing will get done.

His quote was something about Lou and Shanny and Babcock have a lot of experience, and they haven't become stupid all of a sudden. It was pretty funny.

This will not do.

We have to go mental over ever single thing that happens to the Leafs. Then, when someone from another city says the same thing, we all rally together and defend every single move the Leafs make.

It's the big brother/sister syndrome.

From everything I've read over the years, the mentorship the vets provide to the young kids is more on an everyday living level. These kids have been taken care of their entire lives - living with billets, etc.

All of a sudden they are living alone or with other kids, travelling around North America. They need to transition to adults.

The one story that sticks with me - I think it was Coffey and Kurri living together. Their energy levels were really low. Turns out all they were eating at their apartment was Oreos and milk.

I don't know if you saw the reports yesterday - it was buried on the bottom half of the front page of the Globe and Mail - but the Leafs have switched the shaving cream in the dressing room from Gillette to Barbasol.

Leafs management is stupid if they think they can just make these arbitrary changes without it affecting player development.

Sure, Nylander may never need to shave, but what about Brown, Matthews and Bracco?

And will Polak maintain his monobrow with the new shaving cream?

We obviously need Glucky to give his opinion on this, but I'mm guessing this will have a negative affect on the 2018-19 season.

I had my car worked on once ..when they disconnected the battery it locked out the Radio ..had to look up some stupid code to unlock it.. dealer wanted like $50 or some poop.
- senstroll

Acura? They usually have those codes printed on a card with the owners manual...
If the dealer tried to charge you $50, you should go back in and complain loud enough that the other customers leave.

Not a bad way to handle and manage your assets.
- Scabeh

That all depends on whether the team acquiring Polak or Winnik at the deadline is expecting a defined contribution. If so, the return would definitely be betterer.

Ya..

throwback to my point about kids playing hockey these days.. They don't head out to macs for oreos and milk when they are hungry. Its a different time. If they don't respect Polak as a person they'll just tune him out.

Wow, what a shame. Imagine how fast Coffey would have been if he ate right!
