fridayyy - Lucas.Neilson
This week has been a giant cluster(frank)
Glad its over.
Got back from vacation, was gonna give my two weeks notice, get a call that my manager died over the weekend.
held off for a few days, gave the notice yesterday. Company is calling me back today potentially matching my new offer (which I may have embellished a bit)
It's messy though, a guy is dead and the last thing I want to worry about is negotiating $$. But then I see the pic of my boy on my desk and know that I gotta do whats gonna be best for him.
(frank)in mentally exhausting though. Especially when you add the increased immediate workload that comes with one of your team members not being there to pick up any slack anymore.

You know, I don't have time most days to remember what an idiot you are, and to disregard your posts in general, so thank you for these occasional reminders - Feeling Glucky?

Don't do it. Just go with the new job.
If they think you're worth more, they should have paid it you before.
Now they're just trying to save their ass short time - when things settle down, their plans for you will not be as positive.
Never a good strategy to accept 'counter offer' current company after you give notice.

Stick with your original plan.
There's a reason you decided to leave. Dont let the unfortunate circumstance of someone dying change that.
Sounds cold, but you know what I mean. |

Yeah, I do.
I will probably take the new gig. Fresh start and all that.

This. Completely.
Take it from me, I work in HR with high management, once someone "almost leaves" because you managed to keep him. You'll always be seen as someone who's not completely dedicated to the organization and sometimes it takes years before the trust comes back completely. In the mean time, they'll invest in other people to make sure they don't "waste" the money. |

Don't feel bad. Do what is right for you and your family.
If it was the other way around most employers wouldn't give a rat's ass
about you if they needed to let you go. |

While money is important so is the daily work content, your responsibilities, future career growth and the people you will work with. In the end you need to do what will be best for you and your family without being afraid of change.
Good luck

that's a heavy week without question.
id certainly consider going route A - taking the new gig.
mind you, if it's not a great new gig and the old one is going to pay you more...could be worth it (but they may see you as 'that guy') - sometimes the threat of leaving is what's needed to move forward.
you got some thinking to do! |

I'm pretty sure their counter offer is going to be substantial, based on preliminary talks yesterday
So here's my situation:
New job is a 5k bump over my current salary, plus full health & dental coverage, disability and life insurance, and a 5% pension strategy that is matched by the company. Plus it is a bit closer to where I live, so less commute. The trade off is less remote work (ie. from home)
The offer my current company may be making is potentially 20k more than my current salary, but is just a flat paycheck. No bells and whistles whatsoever.
Now, $$ isn't everything but I can't help but do a double take at that if its put on the table.
What sucks is the optics. It completely looks like I'm trying to use my manager's passing as a way to gouge the company, meanwhile the new offer was there before it even happened.

ICYMI: Matthews contract talks bog down over bonuses
https://www.thestar.com/s...ill-without-contract.html
"bog down" yet the article goes on to say there are "some concerns in some corners," without citing a source, and despite Shanahan going on 1050 yesterday saying it'll get done and Marner has bonuses with his contract.
Just making poop up for the clickz. All about the clickz. |
