I've considered it. I have a buddy out here who is a native of Oakland and he has a whole safe full of guns figure my wife should know if we have a gun in the house.
Its just one of those cities that if the poop really hit the fan, i/we would be on our own.
Kinda good to be able to protect the household with a thunder stick. |

Yeah, poop's getting very sadly real these days. Way too many people wrongfully killed by too many corrupt officers. On top of that, I feel for Dallas - great city and all the DPD I've met during my few brief visits there were nothing short of spectacular (as were the rest of the people). Really sad situation going on there.

It's not that they're necessarily corrupt. Although there are enough of those. They're a) jumpy, b) not trained nearly enough, c) don't have the correct mindset to be a cop which leads to "a", d) they're not vetted enough, e) it's us versus them. They don't see black and white. They see Blue and everything else. The guy that was shot in the back last year in S Carolina I believe? That was caught on an eyewitness camera a black cop came up afterward and helped the white cop move stuff around to make it look better for the cop. I've seen many shootings of unarmed white people over the past year or so too. The problem is they've forgotten that they have an inherently dangerous job and think their safety comes first instead of the other way around where the public safety is paramount. And that the motto "protect and serve" only pertains to themselves and that they themselves are often guilty of escalating things.
I just saw a video over the weekend where a white guy was parking his boat in his driveway and a cop drove past a few times and then finally stopped and got out of his car. Walked up to the guy said get your hand out of your pocket, gave him about half a second and then drew his gun. The guy was acting like an bumhole, but the cop was no better. They were both acting like 12 year olds. Except one had his gun drawn. All cops should have to commit "If" by Rudyard Kipling to memory and recite it before they go out on patrol. Then maybe things would be better, but I doubt it.
And this thing in Dallas is going to make everything worse. Do people not get that? |

Corrupt is maybe not the best word, but poorly trained and poorly vetted definitely does a better job. There are of course many instances where similar instances happen and the victim is white, but the stats really do not paint a pretty picture to rule out racism as being at least an underlying cause of what has happened, and a disproportionate amount of these instances occur when the victim is african-american.
As for your final point, that is really the thing that is missed - these instances only make the oppressed feel more oppressed, and the bigots and zealots feel more justified in their bigotry and zealotry... |

Just make damn sure. drill drill drill. Make sure the wife knows it inside and out too. Date night at the range.
More often than not it'll end up being used against you. Homes with guns have more gun crimes. It sounds silly, but if you don't have a gun in the house your chances of being maimed or killed by a gun go way down. And I say this as a multiple gun owner. I have nothing against guns in the hands of law abiding citizens. People generally do not give guns the respect they deserve. I don't use them for home defense, but then again I live in the Town of Tonawanda, a far cry from Oakland. |

Oh absolutely racism is a problem. But you also have to look at the demographics too. In Ferguson it was predominantly white police agencies in predominately black areas. What do you think is going to happen? Even if it's 100% justified every time. You'll still have white cops killing/maiming black people.
There are so many reasons for these things. Socio-economic, demographics, and racism and so on. To boil it down to just racism(not saying you are, but a lot do) is just plain wrong. And an easy way out. |

Jesus Christ. I saw "2 Dallas police officers shot a protest" to like 30 minutes later "4 Dallas police officers killed in ambush from elevated position" I understand poop escalates and gets out of hand so quickly before anyone realizes what happens in the heat of passion. I get that. I don't condone it, but I can grasp why it happens. But this... Goddamn. This was nothing more than coldblooded slaughter of whomever was in their sights. And it was at least 3 or 4 guns. This is poop you see in Syria or Iraq or Afghanistan or Pakistan, not Dallas, Texas. (frank).
I have a feeling this is going to be a very long, bloody summer. |

Yeah, I've been heavily on twitter the past couple of hours, trying to keep up to spee with everything as it gets reported.
It's a (frank)ing mess, and sadly I think that you're right with regards to a long, bloody summer ahead... |

Been looking at the Sabres roster and it seems too full. Currently it would be
Kane, ROR, Okpo
Moulson, Eich, Samson
Larsson, Ennis, Gionta
Foligno, Girgs, dlo
Kulikov, Risto
Bogo, Mccabe
Gorges, Franson.
Murray seems pretty intent on adding a top 6 wing(hopefully Vesey) but if he does that it seems like a lot of guys would be on the move. Girgensons, Ennis, and possibly kane seem like the odd ones out. On D i could see Franson being moved. What high quality player could we get for Franson + girgs/ennis + picks + prospects? I bet we could land barrie or Folwer with the pieces we have. I think it all depends on what Vesey does though. I think if we want to trade kane he will have to play well this season and be dealt at the deadline |

I think Eichel and ROR can be our Kane and Toews. Where ROR(Toews) takes all the draws and the defensive responsibilities. Where Eichel(Kane) is there to put the biscuit in the basket. The team will end up missing ROR more when either is out with an injury. Like they did last season. It was a lot of work to divvy up and no one did any of it as well as ROR did all of it, but then when he came back the Sabres picked up their game again.
Find a top 6 winger for either line. Kane started playing real well with Eichel and Reinhart at the end of the year, so he can go up or down which is good. And we'll be set as far as the top 6 goes for quite some time. If for whatever reason Kane is gone after his contract is up Nylander should be ready to step in. Nothing lost there likely. Everyone else is/better be locked down at that point. Something we haven't had in a very long time.

In a statement to WGR, Vesey's agent said:
"I felt the first meeting with the Sabres went quite well and was certainly informative. Jimmy was very comfortable with Tim Murray and coach Bylsma"
