I've been saying for about a year now that we should trade for Duchene and pair him with Hoffman and Ryan.

All reports seem to indicate Sakic wants to shake things up with the Avs and has called out Duchene on several occasions. A trade seems to be coming for him either way, why not to Ottawa? The asking price seems to be a player, a young guy and a pick or prospect

We have more than enough depth guys that we don't have enough room for up coming stars like Chabot and white. Why not make a package of players like Mack, JGP and some picks for him and finally make a statement to the NHL that we want to win a cup

Well I guess AlfieKing was right. Kelly coming back home.

What a waste of a signing.

What must Nick Paul be thinking now? Lazar was going to be moved up to #3RW, and he would talk over #4C. He was getting praised for his work ethic and his skills. So the Sens go out and sign a guy to take the #4C job.

Unless he's a press box fill in guy, I see no point to this.

I have no problem with adding a bit of centre depth, who also adds speed and PK ability to the checking lines. He can also play wing, obviously, but the real question is whether this paves the way for some kind of a more significant move involving some of the players who might otherwise have been playing this role (eg. Smith, Paul, Lazar, etc.).

Nick Paul should be the #1 C / #1LW in bingo next year.

And first call up for an injured forward.

Well this makes less room for the young guys but brings in more depth and grit.

Hopefully some big moves coming... say for Duchene maybe to pair with Hoffman

Been beaten to death ,would love to have him .But Sakic is a little gun shy, after losing both ROR and Stasny,i dont he can afford to move him unless he is absolutely sure .

I like the Kelly signing.

Let's face it, Lazar isn't supposed to be a 4th line center. He's either going to have to play wing or win a center job in the top 9. We are just ruining this kid to have him play with Chris Neil.

Kelly adds experience, still has speed to burn and can PK with the best of them.

Let's face it, it's not like the 900k would have been used elsewhere. We've been told that we aren't going after any big name free agents, so it's not a matter of missing out on someone because we signed Chris Kelly. I'm happy any time Eugene wants to open his wallet, even if it is for a 4LC.

Kelly's best years were in Ottawa, and the guy still lived here in the summers when he played in Boston. He's a basically a hometown boy without being from Ottawa. I'm happy he's back.

Some people seem to be stuck in 2007 I guess. Chris Kelly will be turning 36 in November and coming off a significant femur injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a permanent press box seat by game 15 or 20. When this team should be moving away from the Phillips/Neil leadership era, they go out and bring in a guy from that era. Pointless signing in my opinion.

I'm thinking it's a depth signing. But since we already have to many C's a more coming. We have to make some trades

Meh i agree with him being not the same player anymore ,and will likely see more pressbox time than icetime .But he still does hold some value ,his brain shouldnt be all that affected from a broken leg could it??
Point is i could see him actually being a good mentor or a coach for this team off the ice ,he is a smart player. That could be of some use for kids like Paul.Lazar JGP ETC,if just to help them out with defensive zone play

I think the most we can expect from Kelly is 10G 20A ~ in a full heathy season. But we'll probably see 8G 15A ~.

This move allows Lazar to be our #3 RW. He'll have less defensive responsibility playing RW. Hopefully he can put up more points this way.

Ditto with Paul. Except on the LW.

Also Kelley is good at faceoffs. Lazar not so much.

How does adding help Lazar though? I agree Lazar's development hasn't really gone according to plan. However, slotting Kelly in the 4th line role and slotting Lazar on the wing with Pageau is the solution? He's only played wing a few times in the NHL. He's a natural centre. Like it or not, Lazar is basically Chris Kelly 10 years ago, ironically.

I just find it an odd move. Very similar to Gomez. People will try to see the upside of the signing, but in reality we just added an extra body for injured players to mingle with in the press box.

Really hope Dorian can do something to actually improve where it matters, but since he's still struggling with Hoffman and Ceci contracts, that seems unlikely.

If Larsson was enough to get your real number 1 center (Hall), I am convince Ceci, who has more value than Larsson, would suffice at getting RNH or Dratsaitl, whom of which I wouldn't even consider. Turris is better than those two players. It would be a very dumb move IMO.

If Sens don't get Kelly, then who plays #4 line Center ? Paul ?

Lazar is god awful in the face off dot.

This move tells me 2 things. 1) PD doesn't want Paul or Lazar in the #4 C spot & 2) he wants Smith to remain as the #3 LW.

We have bigger issues than our 4th line centre spot, lets get that out of the way first.

My issue is that I feel Kelly will be relegated to a healthy scratch. So my point of view is that he can't really play 4th line centre either. Similar to Gomez when we signed him. Maybe I'll be wrong. I'd be happy if I was, but this isn't the Chris Kelly of 2007.

The more I think about this signing the more I hope it's just to replace replace spot to maybe trade a young guy as part of a package for a #1C.
We already have to many C's, why else would we bring in another one

I like the jelly signing. Brings depth to the bottom six, a veteran presence in the locker room (who has actually won) and he makes our PK better

I wouldn't say I hate the Kelly signing. I'm betting we only see him for about 40 games. I think younger guys will force him out. I hope they do, at least. If not, that doesn't speak very highly of the young guys. Kelly has never been much more than a #3C. He is mid 30s now, which is when players usually fade, and he has been battling injuries, which guys over 30 have a harder time coming back from.

I don't mind if Kelly goes out on 4C duty when a guy goes down to injury, or fills in for bottom line LW duty if Puemple / Paul / Dzingel goes down....though I'd probably have Kelly behind each of these guys.

It's nice to see Kelly back in Sens colours, but I don't see a lot of a place for him.

Multiple twitter folks saying Evander Kane won't play another game for the Sabres. If they are looking to just get rid of him, should the Sens be in on that conversation? I'm not sure myself. He definitely adds some toughness and power on the left side, but he is expensive, and going to be UFA after these next two seasons, I think. There seems to be behavior problems and dressing room issues. Would the Sabres do Smith for Kane straight up? Would the Sens pay his salary? Would they ask to have some retained ? I don't know, but I bet Murray and DoorIan ( ) still have open lines of communication.

Honestly Kelly should've never have been traded. All the Sens got in return was Shane prince. Yet another bad move by Murray over the years.

I'd take a chance on Kane and slot him into the #2LW but buffalo would have to retain salary and we would have to have strict rules for him
