How funny would it be, after all this, if he were to sign with Nashville on Aug. 15th!!!

They get their guy, and a 3rd.....even as a Sabres fan i'd have to laugh at that.

I've actually thought about this happening! I think it's a fair possibility. They still have lots to offer if they can get over the past drama between them.

yeah, , kind of like the Drouin saga.

You know though, if that happened the NHL would investigate the hellll out of it.....make sure it wasn't some backroom deal just to get a pick from some unsuspecting team.

Well...Vesy is friends with the silky smooth Jackson Eichel, so the Vesy signing by his royal highness GMTM is a mere formality. We all know, friendship is what drives NHL players. E5

Who's this Vesy guy you're referring to? Never heard of him?

As a third party I would disagree that Buffalo is in any better position to win now than Toronto. Both have some great young players and prospects with potential. That's about it. Seeing how all players are paid in USD your argument is not only invalid but it also demonstrates your lack of understanding of simple economics (perhaps a byproduct of being schooled in Buffalo). Babcock and Quennville are the best coaches in the world. So playing for either would be a huge attraction. Not up for debate. As one who has frequented both cities many times, I can say that Toronto is a world class city with lots to offer a twenty whatever old. Buffalo has... The Bills. Other than that, it's pretty terrible (but the people are nice).

Or perhaps you don't understand simple economics because you don't live in Buffalo? All players get paid in USD but are subject to different tax rates depending on where they play. CAD players bring home the least amount of gross pay, about 10% less than if they played in Buffalo. So.....for an entry level contract of $925,000, $92,500 is significant. If you consider achievable bonuses of another $2m, and a tax loss of another $200,000 you can pretty much guarantee a Harvard Grad isn't signing with Toronto. The difference may not be 10%, but it's very close. Any other economic questions, poop?

Buffalo happens to be one of the most populous cities in the world, it's just that most all of them live elsewhere.

First of all, his point had nothing to do with taxes, but differences in the dollar. (So I guess we can also fault the Buffalo school system for your lack of reading comprehension skills).

Secondly, players are taxed in the state/province of each individual game they play, so the effect you speak of is far less pronounced.

Class Dismissed.

Thanks for your wise input, professor. Me no english speak good. Regardless, Vesey is going to pick what he thinks is the best fit. If the Sabres don't land him, we will have plenty of other opportunities to fill the LW spot. This isn't a make or break signing, largely because (despite what you think), players will want to play with Eichel

Exactly.... I dare say Steven Stamkos came to the Tampa Bay Lightning with no friends on the team or in the area. People MAKE friends wherever they go. That being said, Stamkos doesn't stay in Tampa, if they don't offer him 8.5M plus no State Taxes, plus a strong team. If it were all about friends, he'd still be in TO playing with all of his buddies in the Adult Safe Hockey on Sunday nights at Scarboro Icesports

You are correct about individual taxation based on game location, but a player in Toronto (or any other CAD city) gets killed in taxes 'cuz half his games are in Toronyo and another handful (around 8) are in Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton. Buffalo players play around 11 games in Canada

If you're not a politician, you should definitely look into it....because you can sure deflect/ignore a pretty spot on and very recent example showing that players being friends definitely CAN be one of MANY aspects that influence where a player signs, which is after all, the notion you were originally trying to make fun of.

Nobody, not even Garf, is making an argument that it's all about the friendship component.....so kind of irrelevant to even bring up I imagine.

It is also more expensive to live in TO than it is to live in Buf. That must also be taken into account when talking about finances and incomes (although for professional athletes, it probably doesn't matter as much as the common man.) Before you insult Buffalo school system again, I wasn't raised there, nor attended school there.

But you promised Stamkos was TO bound? You actually guaranteed it. Now talk about Jackson and Samson is a retort about how bad the Sabres are. Thanks.

Come on.....you banned Poopstash?? Why? There was nothing rude about his posts (other than the very tame jabs at the Buffalo school system)

Was he supposed to NOT point out those obvious flaws in logic? He made those other posters look foolish because they lack intellect, not because he's disrespectful

Can't just ban someone because he disagrees with you. It's not Poopstash's fault that those comments were completely inaccurate

The one about everything costing more in TO vs Buf isn't inaccurate though. Just the way he deciphered it. He thought it meant that he would be paid less to play in TO (false), where I read it as everything costs more to live there (varying degrees of truth{I've never been to either, nor lived in either, just what I know about the two cities}) I would think that it would cost more to live in TO, thus meaning less money that he could put away for later.
