Haha yeah, I spent 11 hours at the Maple Leaf pub on Canada day where Molson Canadians were selling for 7 pounds a bottle... that is insane

Wimbledon was worth every penny though

I used to work there.

Thats the case with every stadium/event though. I think its common practice that its $7-8+ for a beer depending on domestic/import/craft, plus considerable markup on all concession items. I was at Wimbledon last weekend and had a Pimm's for 8.50 pounds and a small bowl of strawberries with cream for 4.50 pounds. I've avoided looking at the converted values...

My whole family is from liverpool. We meet in London once every two years. We use a standard measurement of cost when we travel there. We call it the 'HP Scale'. We compare the price of a bottle of HP when we shop. Roughly $5.50 CDN. In London a bottle of HP was 7.50 pounds. Just over $14.00 CDN.

In the US we use the "Ceasar Salad Scale'. Always judge the expense of a restaurant by the price of their caesar salad.

I have a crazy family.

Really! I've been there many, many times.

Great pub. Very popular. My cousins love moosehead beer. They go there just for that.

December '84 - May '85.
It was about 2 or 3 years old at the time. Canadian student the 1st Tuesday of every month and 3 week old videotaped NHL games on the odd night.
Fun times!!

Haha thats like the Big Mac Index, but thats at least somewhat stable. Some items are insanely overvalued when converted

Winning two regular season championships and getting to the scf fourth round isn't mediocrity. Toronto style mediocrity is never, NEVER getting to the fourth round of the tournament, or winning a regular season championship.
- kaptaan

So you are judging success on 3 seasons were they competed for the cup? Out of 47 years of existence? Fans have been there the whole time.

For the past 10 years, at each game they give a jersey to a fan that has shown loyalty throughout the years. Most of those fans have had season ticket since day one. Most of them! That's a lot of people.

They don't post on these boards, or on any boards, or call into the radio shows spewing nonsense. They quietly support their team without question.

Those are the fans that will sit through a rebuild without question. The remaining fans will come and go. But again, that is a standard customer model for this type of business.

Travelling Canadians are the most annoying. I've backpacked all over the world, and I try to avoid Canadians. Especially those with flags stitched to their bag and ones with Maple leaf tattoos.

Well I have no idea where you (frank)ing stand (far away from the arena apparently) but the stadium was empty last season and we were one season removed from the playoffs. I went to approx. 30 games. At one point I purchased 20 seats together for $250 Mediocrity? We have had a great team for the majority of the decade. Not to mention you can hear a pin drop in the stadium.
- CanuckDon

See comments above. Not unusual to have empty seats. It doesn't signal the apocalypse. Canucks still make money. Just not as much. Situation normal.

Always doom and gloom with you. Got to be more positive man.

Then why are they trading Barrie ?
- Redmile247

Who knows. Rumors have been that Landeskog goes to WPG for Trouba, then Barrie to EDM for RNH +.

15,000 people in the stadium with many fans paying $20 a ticket is not normal. especially for a team that spends to the cap and has a high payroll in Utica. I am always doom and gloom Look in the mirror dude

Me too. Travelled through the middle east 88 to 91. I was glad I wore that (frank)ing flag on my backpack. Got me into the Sudan. Saved my ass a few times.

It might be overdone now. No idea. Been a while since I travelled like that.

Just leaving camp...

I watched them scrimmage for about 15 minutes, the first thing that struck me is how very young they all look and are. Really lean kids! Secondly, even with a program it's hard to look at and recognize all of them in a short amount of time.

Standouts, Brock Boeser, the kid was going 80%, unlike most of the others, and he was heads above all the other forwards in terms of pure talent. Juolevi is really poised with the puck, tall lean kid with excellent wheels.

Never heard of Jacob Sweeny before but he's a frickin monster of a kid!

After the scrimmage they brought all the dmen back out for drills, this allows me a smaller sample size to look at. What stood out, Troy Stetcher, holy crap that kid is an extremely gifted skater, so much better than most others. Brisebois is also an effortless skater, but he's a thin kid. Carl Neil, Juolevi, Stetcher and Brisebois were their best kids....today anyways.

Oh, they all came out to sign autographs for the kids, I met eye to eye with demko, big kid!!

it was a joke.

Anyway, I'm going to assume you weren't going to games during the end of the Messier years. It was basically general seating. Have your pick.

The canucks will survive. This owner might not. But who gives a (frank) about him.

It's way overdone. I think originally it was to not be confused with being American. Now other countries heckle Canadians with flags walking down the street.

You're pretty much putting a target on your back with a Canadian flag, I'd rather travel under the radar and not stick out like that.

I'm 6'0" and I always felt tall growing up in NS.

Now I feel so small to everyone younger than me. It's crazy how tall everyone's getting.

But did you ever notice there are no tall old men... What's with that.

Good info, good to know that we have some kids that may keep our defense relevant in the future. I can't wait to see Boeser in Utica or Canucks after this upcoming season. Don't see him spending more than 2 years in university. Kid won't have anything left to prove after his second year.

When I was packing it was to separate us from brits, frogs, auzzies, and yanks. All had bad reputations and political issues. Canadians had the opposite reputation then. If you were british or american you couldn't get into north africa easily. If you were french, or American you couldn't get into Jordan easily.

If you were canadian you were invisible. Now you are a target... poopy
