That's maybe ten teams in the league. The guy IS the Canucks best all-around dman whether you like it or not. Do they need to improve on him, yes, every team needs to improve on their best players, that's what makes them relevant.
- LeftCoaster

Never said he wasn't our best D. I think if we had a true #1 Edler would shine as the #2 guy. I realize this is the situation we are stuck with, thus why I said earlier I can't wait until we have the chance to replace him as the #1 guy (Juolevi)

Awesome! We added a first line winger, a top 4 D and a potential PP QB and we are worse
- CanuckDon

Will get a good Center and Van's number 1 D man back healthy, all the young players have had a year more of experience. Signed the SHL MVP. I really can't imagine this team being worse.

Every successful team keeps drafting and developing to the point where you can do this. I hope the Canucks can do that. The push from below has to be there.
- LeftCoaster

To sum up everything you said, I couldn't agree more. Not every team has to completely tear down and rebuild to be successful. It's worked different ways for every franchise. It's beyond insanity to say there's only 1 way to win a cup and be successful. Every franchise has different circumstances. Toronto doesn't have their franchise players to build around yet so a tear down made sense. It doesn't make sense for the Canucks, not while the Sedins are still here. And while top 5 picks give you a much better chance of finding a superstar it's once again not the only way. Boeser and Demko are looking like proof of that but time will tell.. Media has become such a pathetic industry. They're all a bunch of know it alls, but last time I checked teams weren't calling them for jobs or their opinionions.. Lebrun, Friedman McKenzie are pretty much the only ones I'll even listen to

Juolevi is an 18 year old propect, a really skilled one, but so was Edler when he was that age. Edler put up 53 points in 62 games at the WHL level as a 19 year old, I suspect Juolevi will be around that this year with London as a 19 year old.

Given London is a perennial powerhouse, and based on what will surely be an improvement over last year as concerns Juolevi, I'd like to see him be at least a point per game player in terms of the offensive side of things. More importantly, though, I am hoping that he continues to improve defensively and works on his strength (I think his current playing weight is not enough to deal with some of the big players in today's NHL). That said, I've read that he doesn't base his defensive game on physicality necessarily, and that he is excellent at positioning and has an active stick (as well as great hockey sense/vision). I am very much looking forward to seeing him up close in the months (and hopefully years) to come

Absolutely...patience is key. The same thing with the Sedins. Keep them around until our younger core is ready and then they can retire. But we also have to continue to draft well!

On another note, does anyone know how deep, if at all, next years draft will be?

Canucks add a first line winger and a potential # 1 D while the Leafs add a potential #1 center.

Leafs rank 9 - Canucks 20th

Then maybe the leafs did improve more

I actually think the Canucks as a team got better but the only question is who is the player that regresses when everyone expects every kid to improve ?

Good day,

I expand on Lefty's report from Development Camp, plus the Comets lose an assistant coach and the Canucks return to Whistler for training camp, in the new blog:

how about Eriksson, Jared McCann, 2nd rounder, 4th rounder for Matthews and a 5th rounder (they value draft picks)

the more I look at that Guddy trade, the more I like it...

would Toronto do the trade if OJ was added?

Picking high and getting really good players is probably the wrong way to do it. I'll tell Pittsburgh Chicago Washington Tampa to not do it that way next time..

Difference is a sad sack team still bilking fans in Toronto.

So leafs tried to lose last year and Nucks and their 2 more wins tried their very best or maybe they're both just really poopty teams and one of them decided to move assets and bring up prospects? I just don't get how the leafs are trying to lose but the Nucks we're brutal last year but they're not at all.. leafs are nothing like Oilers. They went out got the coach they wanted, how long did it take the Oilers to go for a goalie anyway? Leafs are trying to get better in other ways then just being the worst team in the league. Just cause they didn't didn't trade for Gubranson and sign Ericsson to silly contract doesn't mean they're not.

There is no comparison when talking about the Leafs.
The poorest run pro franchise that makes money hand over fist.

Decades of Leafs futility only proves a hockey crazed market can support another team & allow hovkey fans the option to gollow the new team. A relocation team makes the most sense.
