Maybe an offer sheet? It was 10-11 and his contract with the Hawks ran out in 09-10. He signed a 1 year deal for 10-11, but was still an RFA. I don't know, I'm too lazy to search any farther than generalfanager which I still had open from the Schultz thing earlier.

I don't understand how the chances of the Sabres signing Vesey are better than they were, say, over the weekend. He is going to meet with them today. That's it. I still think he is going to wait until August 15th, and I think the Sabres expected that when they traded for his rights. As Tim Murray said, this simply gives them an exclusive window during the recruiting process. The idea isn't so much to sign him before August 15th, though it would be nice, as it is to convince him that once he's done speaking with the teams he's interested in, he will find that Buffalo is the best place for him to play.

Agree that it gives them a bigger "get to know" window, but I disagree that Buffalo traded for the pick knowing he was going to 8/15. (a) they couldn't talk to him before trading for his rights and (b) 3rd rounds picks have some value, so, I'm sure they thought there was a chance he'd sign with them before 8/15. This is their 2nd meeting (first since July 1), according to WGR for what's it worth. So this isn't a first date ......
