You won't find me saying this very often. But you make a good point. But if he plays that well then maybe he's the one that gets a deal. Both Saad and Shaw were good, but they weren't great. Although Saad is looking pretty (frank)ing great right now.

you're forgetting one thing Panarin if he has another year like this which I think he will he will get 6m ..

If he gets to play 2 years with Kane/Toews and wins a cup I'm sure he won't be butt hurt over getting traded to another team for 25 games at the trade deadline of his 3rd year. He'll "suffer" for all of like 3 months. The whole avoiding a trade thing is way overblown

Considering he's snubbing the team that drafted him so he can pick where he goes, I'd say it's not overblown at all

He only gets 2 years due to his age. 18-21 get 3 year ELCs 22-23 get 2 24 get 1 25+ don't have a set number because they're no longer in the ELC system.

He also is a RFA not UFA after his ELC.

I was just posting the info. A lot of people seem to be confused by it. But as Broads mentioned he'll be an RFA after his ELC is up. Which is kind of dumb. He's a UFA now, but he'll go to RFA status once he's signed. That's the NHL for you.

Let's say the hawks trade him at the deadline for a better piece to help them
In the playoffs

All that stuff has to be going through his mind

The Hawks are in a pretty rough place cap wise. They can't pay any of their young players without moving out cap, and all their big cap contracts are long term. I suppose the cheap role player method will have to do.

I thought the point of Veasy not signing in Nashville was because he wanted to play in the north east?

I am of so many minds on Vesey I don't know what I'm thinking. On one hand he's doing what he said he was going to do all along which doesn't necessarily preclude signing in Buffalo on 8/15. But on the other if he wants to play here why not just get it over with? Rosters in the NHL for next season, at least to start are 95% set.(one of the reasons why he said he wanted to wait) So he'd know if there's a spot for him or not.

His contract is essentially set in stone save for maybe some differing bonus money from some teams, so it's not like team "X" can offer substantially more than team "Y", so it's not about the money. That leads me to think he's not going to sign here. But maybe he's just a man of his word and doesn't want to come off like a total douche and burn bridges before he even signs by saying he's going to wait until 8/15 and then saying "I really just didn't want to play in Nashville. Sure Buffalo let's make a deal on 7/1." I can get behind that. The guy went to Harvard, and graduated, he's no dummy.

I could go on and on. But you get the point.

That's just conjecture. He wants to go to 8/15 and see what's out there. That's the official line. Signs point to him staying near home, but he never said "I'm staying within "X" miles of home.".

He's a UFA now. But won't be as soon as he signs his contract. It's stupid, but that's how it works.

Justin Schultz did the same thing Vesey did and was an RFA after his first two contracts. He's a UFA now because Pittsburgh didn't give him his QO.

He very well may have. I don't keep Gerbe like tabs on him, but everything I've heard him and his agent say was "we have a short list and Buffalo is definitely on it, but we want to go to 8/15 to see what's out there." "I want to look over teams rosters to see what they have."

After his ELC, he could sign a bridge deal for two years though to hit his UFA status. At least I think he could.

I believe in the CBA to become a UFA, it's 8 years, or 27 years of age, whatever comes first.

Yeah, but after his ELC he'll still be an RFA. Which was the original point Broads made.
