I'm not so sure that the mindset of him having to bulk-up by preseason is such a great plan. Lindros was bull-on-ice and look what happened to him, sure i guess the weight helps, but if it's not functional strength in the legs and core, it might actually effect his game negatively especially if it's just randomly put on his body.
Like it's already been said, this kid knows he's small, and that didnt stop him in the OHL, it's not like every team has a Zdeno Chara just looking to plaster him.... Honestly the Leafs will have too many weapons, to just hone in on him... I feel if he's gonna over ripen on the knights again this season, and since the only thing that kept him out was his size, he'll focus on strength training most of all, leading his totals to decline from last year, and God only knows what hub-bub that'll cause in TO.
Just let the kid play, he's ready.... Unless the leafs don't intend to attempt to make the playoffs... then whats the point of Matthews playing now anyway????

Think the thing with Marner will be to make sure he is in as best shape possible with a crap ton of core and leg strength to battle and not get knocked easily off the puck... that said I wouldn't worry too much about him taking a big hit. Hard to hit what you can't catch and the kid is pretty fast and shifty out on the ice.
Overall am just waiting to see if/what deals might get done before we get to the season start and just what kind of roster we are going to go into the season with. Should have a lot of fresh faces and a lot of youth.
