Except he's better then all them and he's going to weigh like 5 pounds more the next season cause he already says he doesn't want to put on alot of weight. Sure. - ClarksonDavid
No point in rushing him; we are not doing anything next year.
And find me a regular NHLer who's 5'11 and is playing at 170. |

Patrick Kane, Johnny Gaudreau, Artemi Panarin just to name three. Tyler Johnson weighs more then I was expecting |

They're shorter, it suits their frames. Kane's probably the closest equivalent, listed at 5'10'/175, but 5'11" 165 is really sparse.
If he can hit 170, great, but I think a hard gainer like him will take another year or two to do that.

Personally wouldn't mind another high draft pick. But not sure if a top 3 is realistic next year. Leafs have proven me wrong before though lol. Panarin is the exact same size as Marner at 5'11'' 170lbs. Only difference was he played in the KHL so he had pro experience. I believe its time to get Marner some pro experience even if he doesn't play every game this year. They only play 60 something games in the CHL so having him sit a couple games up in the NHL isn't bad for him at all. Baby him in with 60 games if you have too. Better than the CHL option imo. |

It's a tough balancing act: do you bring him up into a crowded lineup of guys desperate to make the team, guys who are really men out there: even Connor Brown is 5'11" and 183 lbs, 20 lbs more than Mitch.
82-game schedule is hard on a young player. And we don't have a veteran team we can shelter him around really either.

To be fair....Connor Brown weighs more than Patrick Kane and he's still allowed to play in the NHL.
It is important to be careful and reasonable with how we make roster decisions here. But if Marner is ready to play tin the NHL then that's all that has to be asked. He's never going to be a 180/190lbs player. That's just not going to happen. Even if you pile on that much weight it will murder his speed and his game along with it.
The question for Marner will be stamina and mobility. Can he handle what hits he will take and avoid the majority of them? That's the test for him. There's no point adding weight that kills his speed, it has to make sense for his body type. I think adding more weight will definitely help and he should try as hard as he can. Just....no point if it kills his real game. |
