101 pts is meaningless... regardless, this team, even if they somehow do make the playoffs, is going no where. most teams around them have improved. sather has ruined this team with the bs long term signings. when a player other than a stamkos type forward, or a hedman type d-men asks for ridiculous amount of money, it's time to let them walk. we shoulda done this with girardi/staal and yes, even hank. he's completely overrated as far as i'm concerned. we could have kept talbot and been just fine.. i'd rather not make the playoffs, tank like the leafs did, and other teams in the past, and get a top 5 pick, afterall, this will be the FIRST year in like, what? 5 years we actually will HAVE a pick in the first round?! Staal and Girardi need to retire, they've made enough money off the Rangers!

I don't think Girardi is as bad as he played last year. Injuries can be a SOB and he played through a cracked knee cap and I blame AV for that. If he had an injury and played fine, then ok. But the guy looked terrible out there and I'm willing to bet some of his play had to do with his injuries. That being said what do you guys think about a Girardi for Hartnell swap? I like Hartnells game and he would be a major upgrade over whoever we put there (grabner/Jensen etc). When you look at it, no reason all of our top 9 wingers can't hit 20 with Buch being the biggest ?. Kreider Miller Nash Zucc Hartnell Buch.

I would MUCH rather have the rangers "success" the past few years, than watching the dumpster fire that is the TOR maple leafs the past few years. for me, I have seen that just because you have a top 5 pick does NOT mean you are going to be good. look at EDM for example A. we have 3/5 of a championship team - great goaltending, good leadership, good coach... if our D can play like they did 2 years ago, then we will be fine.

I'm starting to think Vin is onto something with Sam's quote.

Well his play is going to determine that. I just think its a bit premature to put a guy who hasn't played 1 NHL game in the top 6. Also, Hayes was actually pretty damn good on defense his rookie year.
- mdw7413

I agree.. though I think in a top 6 role we will get the best out of him. and Hayes was good on D his first year. but last year he looked lost most of the season. If we simply get the Hayes from his year back I will be happy. shoot, I would be happy if he simply got better at faceoffs. 36% OUCH!

I have a feeling we see more of the Hayes from the rookie year. As for Buch, he definitely has the skill set to be top 6, I just wonder if he will be able to make that jump from the KHL so fast. And holy (frank) does that dude need to start eating more.

Vin taking the back alley into looking like the smartest guy on the thread? Oh boy, this is going a LONG off-season.

Side note: Should have blown it up. At least it would have given us conversation fodder.

If the curse was really Sam's quote, would you take Cangiolosi over Sam every year to get rid of it?

THE SKY IS FALLING!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!

Give me a break. Is this James Tanner in disguise.
Most teams around us have been improving the last couple of years to keep pace with US. We had a bad season. It happens. It doesn't usually happen that so many players drop off in the same season, but that's what it was. I see no reason to expect the same thing from this squad. It's not like they are the same roster from 10-15 years ago.
And Hank is overrated, eh? Umm, you can go now. It is hard to find a goalie who has better, more consistent numbers EVER.
We need a healthier line-up, with some advancements made by the young players, a revamped defensive system and one more forward. Will this make us Cup favourites? No, but it is hardly the situation that calls for several years of hardship by making rash decisions.

Sure, I think Roy and Sakic would be fired before either pair of players boarded a plane.

There is no options. MSG has three of the biggest hockey broadcast deals. I read a while ago that the Isles, Rags and Devils are all in the top 10 in dollars for TV rights, yet they have no money for decent broadcast teams. I hope you guys wind up with Deb this year.
