Friends of mine explain that she starred in a movie called "The Fappening" but I can't find it anywhere on Netflix.

Well you should hurry im sure Tim Murry would love to hear your well thought out opinions with your years of experience as a GM to back up said opinions... don't forget to mention what you would of done instead to lure the great options to a team that was in the basement.

Not sure why that post is getting so much heat. It's a good conversation starter.

The Will Smith one? I had no issue with it. I just find it ironic that someone asked if I sent my opinion to Murray, while others are posting their opinions of a movie star.

But weren't Franson, Gorges, and to some extent Moulson really only moves to make sure we were at the cap floor while icing a team that would get us Eichel? I actually see all of those contracts as net positive because we got Eichel in part because of them.

- Phatjohnsn

They were made to be high hits and then fall off. It's not my money, if they want to do that it's fine by me. As long as it doesn't stop me from signing anyone because of cap room. The fact that we talked for a year about how we could fit a 12M dollar player shows me those contracts didn't stop us.

No, the hockey one. The first "Did you send this to GMTM" was a little quip, then it kept going on. I like the hockey talk.

You can't worry about the money at all. At all. Period. Because it hasn't stopped us from doing anything. These aren't prohibitive contracts that have stopped us from going after the big free agent or making a trade. The Moulson one is the only one that has been like that at all and that's because of the length. Otherwise you're saying it's bad because of an arbitrary number that has no effect on the actual team.

Now the Moulson one is bad because it's 5M for a long time. That one hurts us when we need to pay players. But with Gionta and Franson both falling off they were good depth and leadership signings for a young team that needed a little boost to get better. Didn't want another year of being in the basement and we weren't.

- Zschalberg

You're right, but going forward, if these are any indicators, Murray might not be the best FA GM.

Yes.

And not every player can be measured by points per 60. The game involves more than just shooting and scoring.

Yeah, I agree. Moulson was also a "sign a veteran free agent who obviously loves the team/city so that it resonates with other players" move. Of course, it went south a little faster than anyone would like but I still don't see it as being a huge negative yet.

I guess I'd say that these moves are nowhere near worth the criticism as some of the trades. I like Fasching and have high hopes for him but we gave up McNabb (a rosterable d-man) and two 2nd round picks for a 4th liner (DLo) and a guy who might cap out at 3rd liner? Thats not great.

Hahaha I guess I'm trying to be optimistic that he will come into this season and show us a little bit more. Maybe I'm wrong but I would say it is going to hard for him to get worse.

Fair. But I wouldn't look at those as the barometer because I feel it was a special situation. The Okposo deal might be a better judgement of how he does. A decent deal, a bit of an overpayment which you have to do in FA, and not a full NMC for the entire deal. If that's the future I'll be happy.

That is only one deal, however. We'll need to see what he does in the future to get a better understanding of how he does with contracts

No I am agreeing with you completely.

Everybody hated him, but Chris Neil played an important role with the Sens for a long time. I bet it didn't show very well in most analytics. But he allowed people around him to be better.

I'm not familiar enough with analytics to know if there is a datapoint that measures that, but I think the threads we write and read don't focus on it whether it exists or not.

Yeah, it was a gamble that didn't work out.

Overall though, the 2015-2016 team wasn't really ready to go anywhere so I think Murray was hoping Franson would show something and then he'd be a piece to move at the deadline. It didn't work but it wasn't exactly a franchise breaking risk.

McNabb was passed on the depth chart. I don't like giving up the seconds. Fasching is the difference. If he turns into a serviceable 2nd line player then great. If not, then we did lose that deal. Now, if he's on my 3rd line and that's a 3rd scoring line I'm happy with it. I'm excited to see him play in Rochester. Just wish they had a better center group down there.
