And that's my point. He hasn't had the timeline to make any judgements about him as a GM, so why are people making all these judgements about him? This upcoming season will have a lot to say about wether or not he's right for the job in Buffalo IMO.

At least from my perspective, some of the moves deserve scrutiny.

What are we getting from the Moulson contract?
What are we getting from the Gionta contractl?
What are wee getting from the Franson contract?
What are we getting from the Fasching deal?
What are we getting from the Kane deal?
Does it look like we are getting anything from the 2014 2nd round where we had 3 relatively high picks?

Individually you can justify anyone of them. Collectively he isn't exactly building an impressive resume here.

That being said, I like this offseason so far, and really liked his draft

Ironically that is how a feel about most Will Smith movies after Ali

I would have to disagree.

GOOD:
Bad Boys II, Hitch, Hancock, I Am Legend, Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happyness, Concussion

BAD:
I, Robot, MIB2, MIB3, After Earth, Winter's Tale, Shark Tale

I say they offer him a contract that's got all the bonus bells and whistles that Reinhart has, and make sure he understands that it isn't going to get any better any where else, whether in terms of $ or in terms of teammates or in terms of factilites and future.

Then I would tell him he has one week to make his decision or the offer is rescinded and we will try to trade his rights to someone else.

- Der Kaiser

Not sure how true that is, though. He has a great opportunity here, yes, but he had arguably a better opportunity in Nashville. Give him the tour, tell him the plan, offer him the money, and then I say "Call us" and if he calls great. But I wouldn't wait by that phone. To me his mind is already made up.

I will give you BB 2, Hancock, I am Legend and Seven Pounds.

But you have to add Focus to the bad list

IMO the Fasching deal and Gionta contract are bad examples. Gionta has been fine here. He's old and he's not going to put up huge numbers but he's been fine in the role he's been put in. I don't want him here long term but the great thing about that contract is he won't be.

Also, the Franson contract is so minuscule it's like saying "Man that Cole Schnider deal isn't working out". It's a depth defenseman on a short contract. It's not like we're having him play 25 minutes a night.

If Vesey doesn't sign in Buffalo by end of day Sunday, I think the writing is on the wall - he is going to free agency and likely elsewhere. I am sure GMTM is working on plan B as we speak. I am still glad he went for it though. Much better to have an aggressive GM vs a Darcy.

I enjoyed I, Robot and MIB2. I Am Legend should move to the Bad list just because of the way they changed the ending.

25 total goals over 2 years for 4.3 mil a year for Gionta.

It's not horrible, but not good either.

Franson is meh, but your 6th D shouldn't me making north of 3 mil. Combine that with Gorges and your bottom pair is getting 7.4 mil.

Again, individually I can see why each move was made, but so far not many have surprised or have been better than expected

Agreed,

Chicago, Pitt, SJ, LAK, TBL are great options for him if he wants to be competitive right away.
They can offer the same money, but can pretty much guarantee playoffs.

Well you should hurry im sure Tim Murry would love to hear your well thought out opinions with your years of experience as a GM to back up said opinions... don't forget to mention what you would of done instead to lure the great options to a team that was in the basement.

You can't worry about the money at all. At all. Period. Because it hasn't stopped us from doing anything. These aren't prohibitive contracts that have stopped us from going after the big free agent or making a trade. The Moulson one is the only one that has been like that at all and that's because of the length. Otherwise you're saying it's bad because of an arbitrary number that has no effect on the actual team.

Now the Moulson one is bad because it's 5M for a long time. That one hurts us when we need to pay players. But with Gionta and Franson both falling off they were good depth and leadership signings for a young team that needed a little boost to get better. Didn't want another year of being in the basement and we weren't.

But weren't Franson, Gorges, and to some extent Moulson really only moves to make sure we were at the cap floor while icing a team that would get us Eichel? I actually see all of those contracts as net positive because we got Eichel in part because of them.
