At the very least it indicates that Schultz didn't completely revive his reputation. At this point, I'd be surprised if he gets 2 x 2. Might even have to settle for a 1 year deal.

good news for the pens potentially then

I dont believe that he doesn't have a few offers already, think about the garbage that Boston is rolling out next year, or Montreal, or Jersey at least a third of the teams in the NHL would be upgrading their PP with him.

I think he is waiting on the Pens who may have told him they are working on freeing up some space to sign him.

I feel as though that might be the case as well. Also, what Cullen is doing could be effecting what Schultz is doing.

basically theres a 90% chance he's nothing but a minor leaguer and potentially short-term call-up. but he's free. Basically this years cleandening except we acquired 4-5 guys like him this year since we lack defensive depth. Hope that one of them pans out into a sericeable guy.
- sditulli

I think he could be the same deal as an Ian Cole... not the perfect fit for a system, didn't get his chance for whatever reason... etc. He could very well land a roster spot as the 7th man (first up for any injury) and getting spot starts. Hes had anything but a bad career so far for being a moreso defensive minded player.

Schultz $2M for 2 years.

Cullen $1.2-1.5M for 1 year.

Hudler $1.5-2.0M for 1 year (show me what You Can do).

Call it a day.

Do we have $5-5.2M In cap space after Lovejoy leaving?

Under that until Dupers LTIR kicks in on the first day of the season.

I'm not really sure about that because they could easily clear some cap space to make a move possible if they really felt that way. The way I see it is that they're comfortable giving Pouliot his chance to shine and if he doesn't they have plenty of spot-gap players like Warsofsky/Erixon/Olesky to hold down the fort short term until they can find an in-season solution, I don't get the feeling they're even actively looking at more established players at this point.
- jaydogg1974

Unless Schultz's value is so low that we can get him for ~1 mil I honestly think we're done this offseason.

Don't they have to be cap compliant the day before the season starts? I honestly have no idea how it works, but I imagine if we had the ability to sign a couple of players they would have. All I've heard is Ruth saying they have about a 1 mil in space.

Maybe Cullen doesn't really know if he want's to play another season yet? Maybe Subban really is that much of a Richard to be around? I am certain no one close to hockeybuzz knows.

Yes. They can be 10% over the cap until the official start of the regular season at which point they have to be cap complaint, there's several different ways the can accomplish this but the simplest would be to send all waiver exempt players to WBS the day before the season starts and then call them back up on Day 1 when Dupuis goes on LTIR which gives them 3.75M to work with, it's all just paper moves so the players aren't affected at all. As of right now Wilson, Pouliot & Murray are the only 3 waiver exempt players so that would give them 2.11M to work with.

No way they an get all 3 even at minimum contracts without moving someone, right now the site 1.3M over the cap so the 3.75M LTIR allowance for Dupuis is actually only 2.45M, even if they cut it tight and only leave around a 750k cushion for in-season call-ups that leaves them with about 1.7M in space to work with, realistically it's more like 1.45M since they'll want around 1M for in-season call-ups.

Assuming they get all 3 for 1M per which I think is unlikely, that's 3M total, they'll get get 625k for sending Wilson down to make room for Hudler but they still has them adding 2.375M to the cap which they can't do.

could be about subban. i would incline that something is overblown, but again, no one outside of the room knows.

still though. if you are so inclined to move him, you need to do better.

I'll take Schultz at 2m for 2yrs

No on Cullen, thank him for his time and for helping but sunds earned the right to be the 4th Center

No on hudler, rather take tlusty at 800k for a year and if need be waive him for Sprong, Dea, Guentzel etc...

And also no room for hudler with kuni here. Almost same type of player

Another Kunitz In Hudler? I'm all for it then. He's the type of player that matches well with either, Geno or Sid. I'm no Hudler expert but I'm already liking him.

He's okay for a rental at trade deadline of you need it bc of injuries but he shouldn't be taking away spots from guys like Wilson rust Sheary and even kuhnhackl...and as we have seen all those young kids mesh well with Sid and geno... no need to pay for hudler when kuni is still on the books... And unfortunately playing top 6

Isn't Hudler a bit more skilled than Kunitz but with less physicality?

Watching this seasons highlights are rediculous. The players must of hated playing for HCMJ. Their turn around was almost immediate, one month from HCMJ getting fired the Pens became unstoppable.
Went from fighting for scraps with the Devils and Flyers for a wildcard slot to the team the Islanders and Rangers tanked to not face.

The Pens narrative went from we could win the draft lottery! Toronto is going to be so pissed! To, Kessel is raising THE Cup! Toronto is going to be so pissed!!

I think most people in Toronto are happy for the hot dog master.

For those talking about Percy... he actually made the roster the last two years in Toronto from what I read.

Two seasons ago, he had 9 games, 3 assists, and averaged 20 minutes of ice time. To me, that is a 2nd pairing usage... seems to have been over his head and they sent him down, and he got a bit hurt then. (yeah, possible Beau Bennett of the D, hardee har har).

Last season, they had him up for only 3 due to an injury of the roster, no points, gave him bottom pairing minutes and he sat as the extra man. Can't say that helps us with him or not for gauging ability.

But what I do know, is a note from the two seasons before last, is that they wanted his offensive capabilities strengthened.

............................. games G A P
2013-14 Toronto Marlies 71 4 21 25
2014-15 Toronto Marlies 43 1 10 11
2015-16 Toronto Marlies 58 4 20 24

From what I see, he lost a step on his injured year in the 14-15 season, then basically matched his points in less time in the AHL last year, while riding the bench as the extra man in the NHL for part of the time. It appears that he got better at putting up points, he is only 23 years old, and was drafted to be an all around defensive minded Defensman.

Hes showing solid potential, why are the female doging over him?
