"Be careful ... Dcoms will be all over you. He gave me a list of names ahead of Percy in Toronto and only two of them were good. We shall see. Maybe a change of scenery does him well, but I'm not that hopeful to be honest. Hope he proves me wrong."

Coming from the guy who a year ago said Dumoulin would never be anything more than a 7-8 depth dman AHL player I'm gonna go ahead not care one bit about your player evaluations. Toronto is my hometown team and a lot of their fans once thought Percy was going to be the next Riley. Toronto has too many defensive prospects and too many contracts overall that's why they didn't qualify a few players they normally would have held onto.

- Dcoms

Nope, said he probably slotted in as a sixth as far as Dumo. He proved me wrong. But lets not put this kid in the same category. Couldn't crack a poor Toronto roster. Their second Dpair was probably the worst in the league and he couldn't get any run whstsoever. Your player evaluations are laughable. They have all these D prospects but how many of them are worth a poop? Probably few. Just face facts, this kid failed in Toronto, which has a lousy cast of Dmen. Sounds like excuse making to me. Hope he turns it around here. I think we are in agreement.

But, hey ... DP will be a top 10 defenseman in this league in two years, or was it a $4 million Dman? That is your mantra. Which is more ridiculous?

Don't know how true this is or not but Madden just said that he was told that GMJR offered all 29 teams the right to Shultz for a 7th round pick at the draft and nobody bit.

Because its a waste of a pick. No team was going to offer Schultz the 4 mil to QO him, so why bother to get his rights when you'd STILL have to release his rights to offer him as a free agent.

So it could be true, it makes perfect sense no one would take that.

But as someone else pointed out... bad teams are bad because they make bad decisions. Not saying not qualifying him was. But it might have been. And you can't trust that they made a good decision when they don't yet have a track record (as an organization) of making good decisions just because they're professionals. Mike Milbury was a GM for a long time and made bad decisions after bad decisions. And I sure wouldn't use any of his deals or decisions as the benchmark for right or wrong calls. Cause that kind of logic leads you to justifying signing someone like Yashin (or in the case of Toronto, David Clarkson) to insane contracts that they weren't worth when it's just obvious that some organizations don't know how to properly evaluate and determine the value of talent.

For those talking about Percy... he actually made the roster the last two years in Toronto from what I read.

Two seasons ago, he had 9 games, 3 assists, and averaged 20 minutes of ice time. To me, that is a 2nd pairing usage... seems to have been over his head and they sent him down, and he got a bit hurt then. (yeah, possible Beau Bennett of the D, hardee har har).

Last season, they had him up for only 3 due to an injury of the roster, no points, gave him bottom pairing minutes and he sat as the extra man. Can't say that helps us with him or not for gauging ability.

But what I do know, is a note from the two seasons before last, is that they wanted his offensive capabilities strengthened.

............................. games G A P
2013-14 Toronto Marlies 71 4 21 25
2014-15 Toronto Marlies 43 1 10 11
2015-16 Toronto Marlies 58 4 20 24

From what I see, he lost a step on his injured year in the 14-15 season, then basically matched his points in less time in the AHL last year, while riding the bench as the extra man in the NHL for part of the time. It appears that he got better at putting up points, he is only 23 years old, and was drafted to be an all around defensive minded Defensman.

Hes showing solid potential, why are the female doging over him?

I'm not saying it surprised me but the point to trading for his rights was to negotiate with him before anyone else in hopes of extending him before FA started and all of that could have been done without offering him a QO some to an extent I can say it's a little surprising that no one took a shot with a worthless pick to see if they could convince him to sign.

basically theres a 90% chance he's nothing but a minor leaguer and potentially short-term call-up. but he's free. Basically this years cleandening except we acquired 4-5 guys like him this year since we lack defensive depth. Hope that one of them pans out into a sericeable guy.

I would add to that not to trust the talent evaluation of bad franchises, just because Toronto's defense corp was bad and Percy was cut doesn't 100% mean he was/is a worse player than the other guys they kept, it could just be an example of poor evaluation from a poorly run organization. I mean TB is considered a well run organization and look at everything they went through with Drouin.

Nope not at all. Honestly, I'd have a bad feeling if we were putting all of the eggs in Murray's basket right away. The bad feeling would come from uncertainty.
- MattStrat

A guy wins a Stanley Cup for you and all you can say is "uncertainty". Really Murray won more series (4) this year than The Mr Beloved won in the past 6 years and you say uncertainty Go look in the mirror and you will see uncertainty What a moroon

It's very quiet on the Schultz front. Maybe he signs for far less than I expected. I saw a weak Ufa defense market and pegged him for overpaid.

Seems like a few trade need to happen before the last dmen go.

At the very least it indicates that Schultz didn't completely revive his reputation. At this point, I'd be surprised if he gets 2 x 2. Might even have to settle for a 1 year deal.

I dont believe that he doesn't have a few offers already, think about the garbage that Boston is rolling out next year, or Montreal, or Jersey at least a third of the teams in the NHL would be upgrading their PP with him.

I think he is waiting on the Pens who may have told him they are working on freeing up some space to sign him.
