Just looking at highlights that Sergachev is a beast. Shea Weber will turn him into a superstar
- QuickSCF

part of the reason why they traded for Weber IMO, mentor the young guys like he did in Nashville

I wanted the Bruins to trade up and draft him. He's amazing.

Detroit offered 1 year @ 5M$. Apparently one other team made a 2 year offer, I don't know at what price.

So if anything Bergevin overpaid by 750k$.

- Fredobface

He offered more but over paid? You really can't say, it depends on how bad you want the guy. Personally I think 5.75 is a lot to pay a guy who hasn't played in the NHL in a while and was a bit of a problem when he did. If this is the guy Montreal really wanted though, they were going to have to pay up because he's still got a lot of earning power in the KHL. Financially Radulov really doesn't need to be here.

There really isn't an established market for a guy like Radulov because there aren't a lot of high ceiling guys who are willing to take a one year contract.

For a one year deal, I don't mind that much. It's a risk yes, but not as much as Ladd's and Backes' deals. We'll see how it turns out, but he could fill a need in the top 6, and was most probably the best guy available for that.

I don't think it's much of a risk at all. Maybe it makes it more difficult to fill holes around the deadline but like you said, it's one year. What's the worst that could happen?

Bergeron is a top 10 centerman in the league. Saying otherwise is lunacy.
- Bruiniak

Still, Bergeron is a 60pts/season center.

60 pts per year is solid production? That's while he was Montreal's top centerman. On most teams in the league, he would be a third line center at best.
- Bruiniak

Plekanec has pretty much exclusively cantered the second line in his career, especially since Kovalev left like 7 years ago.

Agreed. 55 points centers are 3rd liners

Shaw has never scored 40 pts. Suddenly, he's a good second line RW? Gallagher on the first line? Those aren't playoff contender lines.

If you get Vadim Shipachev as is currently rumored, you'll have a great player to plug into that top 6.
