I'll say it again, (frank)ing capital A one that the Leafs didn't blow their brains out on anything for UFA...well played by the Leafs.
Not thanking Buffalo or congratulating Pittsburgh at the draft and just making the pic was pretty awesome. As was the Leafs sitting there two hours early the next day before any other teams. That was some hardboiled poop lol, I love it. - Zezel
Lol, really. That's funny. |

In case you forgot: There Will Be Pain
-Can retain salary on two traded deadline expiring deals. Polak/Greening/Laich/Michalek as required.
-Leafs are stuck with Lupul's deal, so time Nylander's next contract and hope he earns those dollars on long term UFA eating deal.
-The abundant cap space in'18/'19 ear marked for Matthews/Marner next deals.
-Lou said 50% new roster from what ended season: Andersen, Soshnikov, Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Hyman, Zaitsev, Martin & Polak*...9/20 line up (pretty close)
-There will have to be a forward or two moved for futures or package for young player.
Not getting Stamkos and not going on tilt Friday and offering a really stupid long term big cash deal shows the Leafs are prepared to hunker down and eat it another year, see players develop in 'a safe environment' (See: Martin & Polak and other retained vets).
Based on Leafs Twitter this weekend people are ready to jump - there is a Shanaplan and it's disciplined. It will change, but signing two guys to low cost deals with established track records are relatively low risk.

Retaining salary on the expiring contracts isn't an issue, I imagine they'll use it.
Imagine they'll have lots of competition in camp to see who makes it. - burn
It should be a fun camp. |

Meh. We've waited this long watching GM after GM (frank) around with no real plan. I'm sure we can wait 4 more years while the GM, thus ultimately the team, shows direction and not deviate one bit from what they said the day they were hired. |

Yeah. But IMO Bozak > Holland in all areas but age
You never know with Bozak. Guy played on the 1st line against top shutdown lines for years. Having him play with like Hyman and Marner or something on a 3rd unit could end up over performing. Like a poor man's version of the HBK line. Same principle. Who knows |

He's a legit 2nd/3rd liner IMO. He has value. If the price is right he will be dealt if not then Lou will gladly keep him this year. |

With Polak, #Leafs are an est. $594,084 over the cap (13F/7D/2G) but have flexibility with potential LTIR options. - Fruitcakenipple
A last place team over the cap?
Talk about piss poor cap management over the years |

I'm pretty sure that number includes Cowen's cap hit as well. In two seasons there will be almost no sign that Burke and Nonis ran this team. |

I'm not one to believe the non TSN or Sportsnet tweets. But I just saw rumorbreak tweet that JVR+Dermott for Barrie is on the table.
Just for FUN
would anyone take that deal? |

Very good. Not worth that package alone, though. Dermott could be just as good. You never know. |

That's what I was thinking. I think Barrie is a top pairing d man. I hate to give up JVR though. And Dermott has a real chance of being a 2nd pairing defensmen. A prospect of equal or a bit less value prospect has to be coming back |

High quality defensmen. Tough to send a prospect of dermotts caliber |
