Interesting. Maybe Peter Holland was qualified so that they can sign him to a 2 year deal and expose him to the draft. I don't see any other forward options that are under contract for 2017-2018 that are preferable...

quite the opposite... the leafs will play him if he isnt hurt and give him ideal minutes to make him look better (see phaneuf) and they will hope like hell that they can move him

its wishful thinking to think he will be taken in the expansion draft... my guess is that it will be bozak who gets taken from the leafs

that's why Lupul will be on the opening day roster, will also likely get 3rd -4th line spot duty to help minimize potential injury until he gets to the 70 game mark between last season and this one.

possibly, have to wonder if a guy like that would be willing to do just that and hope he gets picked up in the expansion draft, as he would likely get a better shot at more ice time on an expansion team. The other route is he doesn't want to go to Vegas, so he insists on a 1 year contract to avoid being exposed.

if lupul is healthy he is still a very capable player

as you said... he just needs those 25 games... so the leafs can meet their exposure requirements... doubt he is taken... but it will help when trying to get up to 25% requirement of the cap that needs to be exposed
