how many dumpster fires are happening at the same time? have the other fires been put out yet?
Miller is just as good as anything in Calgary, Edmonton and Zona...
like our d better than Edmonton's.
I'm not worried about poking holes, just looking forward to the fall to see how it all plays out. we were still in playoff contention for most of last season until Bartkowski was getting #1 minutes. - hillbillydeluxe
Arizona / Phoenix is one of the top five worst franchises in sports history it is quite fitting that they have the worst blogger. Marriage made in heaven . |

flames fans should not be talking smack.
they're top 6 is weak.
they have good D, but goaltending is questionable at best.
Oilers are the opposite.
Great top 6 and lots of questions on teh backend, goaltending maybe slightly better than the Lames.
i like our lineup makeup at present, still feel we need another top 6 winger (EKane) to push us over the line from competitive to good.
Edit: I think Edmonton might actually contend for a playoff spot this year. i know it's been predicted for years and years (never by me tho ) but i feel that this year they actually have some pieces in place. |

and when his contract expires, he will be 6 years older.
(i'm okay with the signing, maybe I could gripe about it being a year too long or the structure, but we got the most offensive ufa available)

Impressed with Florida's moves, signing a whole bunch of their younger dudes (Barkov, Smith, Bjustad, Trotchek, Ekblad, etc) to fairly reasonable contracts. |

"Nucks are the new dumpster fire of the division. Virtanen does not look impressive. Loui is 32, twins are old and are going to be re-signed to anchor contracts so all 3 can decline together. Miller is not even a top 15 goalie anymore.
Maybe they should actually rebuild, instead of going for 9th place?
- FLflames34"
This is from Tanner's thread - other than the Miller comment, see if you can spot or poke holes into any of these arguments Obviously an intellectual collosus if there ever was one, yes - Zogg
We don't have dmen that will get blackballed by the refs this season compared to the flames who will lose every close call decided by a ref or linesman. That's an 8 alarm fire going anytime for them.
JV is better than Jankowski who they couldn't decide to even sign to a contract one point.
At least we have players that can decline, their goalies are still career backups.

re previous discussion around Hansen.
I like his play and respect his game (versatile, pk, 1st line, speed, and finally some hands) and love his contract.
Saying that, i would move him for an upgrade.
Sbisa, Hansen and Torts 2nd for EKane
Buff
Moulson/Eichel/Okposo
Folingo/O'Reily/Reinhart
Deslauries/Ennis/Hansen
McCormak/Girgenson/Gionta
Bogosian/Kulikov
Ristalonin/Sbisa
Gorges/Franson
Faulk
Van
Sedin/Sedin/Erikson
Kane/Bo/JV
Sven/Sutter/Burrows
Etem/Granlund/Dorsett
Gaunce
Edler/Tanev
Gudbranson/Hutton
Larson/Tryamkin
Pedan
win/win in my books, as long as Kane can pull his head in.
Gives us another PF that could hit and chip in 20-25 goals.
Spreads the scoring around the top 9 and allows Larson/Tryamkin to play.

I think Pirri is in demand & deciding on the best money offer.
I can see Las Vegas signing Miller next year maybe.
2-3yrs while they get their roster building up IMO |

Burrows and Sbisa?
I was guessing we would be carrying extra d in the pressbox but if we have extra forwards that will require waivers to go to Utica, maybe some moves will be made.
if you are going to risk waivers, the start of the season is when to roll the dice. - hillbillydeluxe
starting roster could be interesting indeed.

I think a reclamation project like Kane would be an interesting pick-up - definitely a lot of upside potential if he can get his off-ice issues sorted out (which apparently has not been easy - being back home, however, and having Linden and Sedins as role-models/mentors, might just be the difference that is needed).
That said, given his all-time low value at the moment, I think your proposal is a bit of overpayment. At this point in time, I think Sbisa plus a 2nd round pick should get the ball rolling. If that's not enough, perhaps another lesser piece could be thrown in (I think including Hansen would be too much compensation, given Hansen's all around solid game, work ethic, and versatility, as has been noted on these boards by the majority of posters).
If we did get Kane, how do you think he would slot in the line-up? perhaps start him off on the second line with Bo?

any deal for Kane who I like is a take or leave it deal IMO

i can pick up what you're putting down, but i don't like Rodin in that 2nd line spot (yet). surely he has to earn that, especially if we have proven NHLers like Burrows/Granlund on the outside lookin in??

Kane has't proven enough to me yet. Aside from being hurt or underachieving. Hansen is more valuable and cheaper. Everyone thinks of what Kane could be and not what he is. He's been in the league long enough. Add in his off ice issues...

At this point in time, I don't think you can even mention Jankowski's name in the same sentence as JV. Virtanen's game is head and shoulders above Jankowski's.
I have to say I couldn't be more pleased with his acquisition - he has shown flashes of high end talent and has that power forward make-up and mentality (this is truly amazing for just being 19 years old!). Benning hit a home run with this kid and he has a very bright future as a Canuck. I actually wouldn't be that surprised if, when all is said and done, that he may even end up being a potential first line player.
If only Benning's drafting skills could be translated to the negotiating and trading component aspects, we are going to be looking very good sooner than later |
