there have been other players with "back checking" issues, and they've improved that facet of their game.
again, I'm not saying he's Kessel, but what about all the fat jokes, cheeseburger, out of shape & breath, no hustle, etc. e was able to keep up with the speed after all.
You've got some guys that only worry about the defensive end, and will not take shots, and we hear that they are good players, but no hands, offense, etc.

His scouting report also didn't note him as a poor defensive player just streaky.
It's not like he's break the bank either.
We hear how hard it is to produce consistent numbers in todays game, getting shots, goals etc.

Has nothing to do with Kessel, most of the stuff about Kessel was overblown, Toronto media BS to begin with. Kessel is also an elite level goal scorer. Pirri had 22 goals once

The simple fact is Pirri isn't the kind of guy the Flyers seem to want. They are focused on drafting & signing guys who are good two way players. Pirri can shoot. That's about it. Like other one dimensional offensive players, adding Pirri is basically adding a guy who will be in & out of the lineup.

Obviously 2Real was just yanking chains, but Reilly Smith is a really good 2 way player. Led Florida in SH ice time and was one of the best shot suppression and lowest GA forwards. Second best ES possession player on Florida, and that's with his line facing the hardest competition. Scored the same amount of points and actually 3 more goals than Brayden in comparable minutes at evens. The real difference in scoring is that Florida's PP wasn't that good -- Jagr led all players in PP ice time and got 11 points -- 15 was the team high. Compare that to G's 27.

He's possibly a better all around player to Schenn. Even if Schenn doesn't regress back to ~50 points, that all around play probably more than makes up for 9 points difference. Not that any of this matters.

Yes, I realize. Smith is actually a good comparison to Schenn, in terms of contract and value to their individual teams. I fully expect Schenn to get similar term and money

There's really no way he should get any more than that. He's not as good as Forsberg, he's really not as good as Kadri, if they're going to use a comparable, Smith is a good one.
