I don't think there's any way the flyers roll out Konecny Giroux Weise as a line |

It's also worth noting that since January 1st until the end of the regular season, the Flyers finished 12th in the NHL in ES scoring. Their disaster first couple months really drag down their season averages. Despite all the injuries, there WAS improvement in the year as Hak's system began to sharpen up with the players.
It's easy to forget how outstanding they were the last few months with that putrid playoff series against Washington. Their 3 best players on the ice were all injured (G, Ghost, Jake) and two of their other most important players weren't even able to play (Couturier and MDZ). And due's to Neuvy's injury, Mase was probably just exhausted. Cut out that series and there is a lot to be encouraged about. Can't forget that. - Mononoke
This is how I look at things. They were two different teams this season |

Brandon Pirri
SCOUTING REPORT
Assets: Has a wealth of skill and shooting ability. Can both set up linemates and finish plays off with aplomb. He shoots the puck often, too, which helps him produce good numbers.
Flaws: Is an extremely streaky scorer and generally lacks consistency. Also lacks a bit of bulk for his 6-0 frame and the physical strength to win board battles with regularity.
Career Potential: Talented, inconsistent scorer.
25 years old
166 games 49 goals 31 assists 80 points
I can't see where a player like him can't help us, it's not like he will cost $4m a year, or a 6 year crippling term.
If it's possibly due to attitude problems bring him in, and talk to him.
I love the Weise move! He has skill, size, moxie.
But how can anyone say, or believe we don't require one more scoring winger?
Sure if Read's shooting % went back to 16%, and not 8% like the last few years), ok then we have the scoring winger we need.
But there's no signs of that happening.
Note; everyone said Kessel was a lazy back checking, out of shape player.
Funny how the right environment makes all that go away. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Flyers Goal-Scoring Outlook - bmeltzer
In my opinion if we're serious about patience with young players, we shouldn't banl on Travis Konecny making the team at all. He ended the season with a shoulder injury and the reason we were able to get him so late in last year's draft is because he's prone to injury, so his stalk dropped. When I went to see him play against Windsor late last March, he was pushed around pretty good and it took him time to get into a groove against the much bigger Windsor players. With this said, Konecny still ended the game with a goal and three assists (I believe). Last thing we should do is rush a player to the NHL just to get screamed because he hasn't proven he can stay healthy at the junior level yet. Allow him to dominate again in juniors, allow his body to continue to mature and reevaluate next season.
Also can we reframe from detailed posts about how ripped a 17-18 year old's body is. |

Question is: Are the Flyers good enough for the playoffs again? They finished in the final Wildcard position last season barely.
After this offseason, Flyers got marginally better.
Buffalo improved
New Jersey improved
Boston is in the same boat as Philly
Wings I think Improved but many seem to disagree.
Aside from the Rangers, every other team above them has improved as well
.... on paper..... - xShoot4WarAmpsx
This is another exercise that we've been through before. Every team improved, but the Flyers. Before it was Columbus who was the up and coming team that was going to move the Flyers down a peg. Look at what happened? There are more way to improve as a team, then adding new players.

That top group looks so balanced. Really hoping Konecny forces his way onto the team and can make some magic with Giroux. If he's ready, we can keep Voracek with Couturier and Simmonds with Cousins.
Assuming that top 9 works, a 4th line of Raffl-Gordon-Read could be really solid. Wouldn't actually be surprised if Read ends up scratched and Bellemare is a better fit. Line has a little bit of everything.
Thoughts?

The offense is too spread out, and I wouldn't play Weise with Giroux.

Konecny will not make the team, if he does he will play on the 3rd or 2nd line in the unlikely event he does. Same with Provorov unless he has a flawless preseason he will be sent down. AMac will play as Hextall will want him as a Vegas option to be claimed. |

Difference is last season I saw them as a playoff team going in, I did believe Columbus would be better but I never believed the Flyers would be at the bottom of the league. This season however I can see them finishing 8-10 |

First, I'll never make the mistake of assuming that I know how another person's feeling and how does another person describing a 17-18 year old like he should be considered for the sex offenders list get deflected back to me? |

On Yakupov...
Still hearing Montreal and Philly. The Habs are the leading candidate here, but I continue to hear a possibility of Yakupov for Mark Streit as well. So this could get interesting.
I know Ek's rumors rarely pan out, but it'd be awesome if there was some truth to this. Losing Streit's cap hit would be amazing. |

I would love to get Yak for cheap. We could use a scoring winger and iirc Yak broke Stammer's scoring record in Sarnia which speaks volumes imo. I'd hope the change in scenery can bring him back to first overall pick form. |

I agree, I think it will be unpopular here but I think a change in scenery is what he needs. If it was Streit for him it would be low risk high reward for sure. Not sure EDM really needs more D after the Larson trade and signing of Fraser though. Yaks value has to be at an all time low though.
EDIT: I would then look to Justin Shultz as a UFA with the saved cap space. |

I see them as improved but when you consider the rest of the leagues improvement, makes their improvement irrelevant |
