its who they need to expose to meet the terms

as it stands right now the only nhl players available for exposure are lupul, kadri, jvr, bozak, komarov, martin, riely, gardiner, and zaitsev

i imagine corrado and marincin could be added once they inevitably sign new deals

and rychel on the marlies

my guess is you see the leafs swing some deals this summer and upcoming season to bring in some guys they can use to expose

Yes, but it was already determined that players who did not have an NMC (or indeed contract) after July 1st would not count towards the required protection limit
- lumlums

Where do you see that?

https://www.nhl.com/news/...n-draft-rules/c-281010592

It states players with a NMC at the time of the draft ( that have not waived) must be protected. Unless it's the "continuing" part. In that case you may be correct. But still can't use him to satisfy the 25% requirements.

lol

whats going to be tough is meeting the 25% of the cap must be unprotected clause.

the leafs cant just bring on 2 or 3 guys with bad contracts to handle that... cause they will only lose one at best... and then be stuck with the others

lol i have a question... does nylanders first half season in 2014-15 count as a season?

if it does he will need to be protected

- Dozzer

I'd like to know if General Fanager takes next season into account when it comes to who is Expansion draft exempt and who needs protection..

okay so they expose lupul, bozak, martin.....

they still need to expose 6.3 million dollars worth of salary

my guess is the leafs make a few depth signings for the marlies

General Fanager (amongst others)

Protected Lists

Clubs will have two options for players they wish to protect in the Expansion Draft:
Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender
Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender
All players who have currently effective and continuing "No Movement" clauses at the time of the Expansion Draft (and who to decline to waive such clauses) must be protected (and will be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).
All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).

I saw on twitter it was clarified (between these folks and guys like Bobby Mac/LeBrun/Mirtle) that if the NMC ceases to continue as of July 1 2017, then the player does not require protection.

Sure, because the Sharks went to the final riding on his back, not Couture, Burns, Jumbo and Pavelski

Isn't he just $5m?

Plus he'll be protected. Bernier's contract will expire. I think it'll be Sparks who gets exposed.
