the leafs could still expose him and still meet the exposure requirements tho

if they get his permission they can expose him and still have the remaining players who are exposed satisfy the minimum requirements

incorrect... they would only need the approval of the nhl if they tried to use him to meet the exposure requirements.

if they met it without him (and yes lupul staying healthy is a huge part of it) then the leafs would only need permission from the horton camp to expose him.

The main concern and reason behind why a lot of the kids not playing is mostly based around the expansion draft. This is why some will stay in the AHL and OHL longer than usual. Leafs have too many forwards already, so why push forward contracts?

Leads are going to take some steps forward, but aren't ready to make any real push for at least another season..

At the end of the day, we only lose one player, and i am confident that one player is not going to be someone we will miss.

Exactly, no matter how you slice it, we will not lose an important roster piece. We will either lose a veteran like Bozak or a young "maybe" defenseman of which we have plenty.

The core is nowhere near being in danger for the Leafs.

its who they need to expose to meet the terms

as it stands right now the only nhl players available for exposure are lupul, kadri, jvr, bozak, komarov, martin, riely, gardiner, and zaitsev

i imagine corrado and marincin could be added once they inevitably sign new deals

my guess is you see the leafs swing some deals this summer and upcoming season to bring in some guys they can use to expose

TBH though I see them keeping 8 D/13F on the roster. We have lots of forwards who can be shuttled between NHL/AHL without clearing waivers but fewer D who can.
