Lol...yeah, I guess that's the price, or whatever GM's were willing to do for the Oilers anyway.
- Jeropotato

Have to wonder if they have a poophead trade tactic with the Oilers because of "OMG THEY IS LOOOSERS CUZ OILERS IZ LOOOZERS!" It seems like a joke to anybody rational, but it appears to be how some people view the world.

Nice to see Lucic realize this is his big move to be the man again

TO street meat rules!

You always see these polls where they try to anoint an official Toronto food, because we don't really have one like Montreal has poutine. Back bacon sandwiches always get mentioned, and I've never had one and neither has anyone I know in TO. It's so weird, it's not even a thing. It's all about the street meat sausage carts. Piling every single topping onto a sausage until there's a pile of condiments at your feet while you eat it.

- Zezel

Every city has hot dog stands, and if you haven't had peameal bacon sandwiches from the market, that's on you. Go get that poop taken care of.

Hey Jabroni!

I love that they got Larsson. He's a solid 3 that at his age could very well be the real 2 that they need.

But why the (frank) did they give their only player outside of McDavid that can score? People keep saying the Oilers are amazing offensively...this isn't true. It's "potentially" true, but Hall has been the only constant scoring threat for years. Every players production goes down when he isn't with them.

Hard gamble and I don't doubt that Chiapet thinks he's a "cancer" and the Oilers will be better for this in 2019.

- AdamFrench

No sugar coating needed. Giving up Hall for a guy that "might" become a number 2 dman is a (frank)ing disgrace. PC is an idiot. We will never win the cup with him as GM. MOAR Meatheads!!!

(frank) peameal bacon sandwiches. Italian panini is more Toronto than peameal.

The main concern and reason behind why a lot of the kids not playing is mostly based around the expansion draft. This is why some will stay in the AHL and OHL longer than usual. Leafs have too many forwards already, so why push forward contracts?

Leads are going to take some steps forward, but aren't ready to make any real push for at least another season..

Or, you can look at the expansion tool on General Fanager and see that most of the players you're talking about will be exempt. Here's the exempt list (which of course does not include any guys from this years draft):

Nikita Zaitsev D $925,000
Kasimir Kaskisuo G $925,000
Zach Hyman C $900,000
Travis Dermott D $894,166
William Nylander C $894,166
Mitch Marner C $894,166
Kasperi Kapanen RW $863,333
Frederik Gauthier C $863,333
Kerby Rychel LW $863,333
Rinat Valiev D $778,333
Andreas Johnson LW $750,833
Justin Holl D $742,500
Nikita Soshnikov RW $736,666
Tobias Lindberg RW $693,333
Andrew Nielsen D $670,000
Dmytro Timashov LW $665,000
Byron Froese C $575,000

Here's now the non exempt list, with bolded being the one's who are likely to be protected (this does however include players who are currently under contract but will be pending UFA by the expansion draft):

Nathan Horton RW $5,300,000
Joffrey Lupul LW $5,250,000
Brooks Laich C $4,500,000
Nazem Kadri C $4,500,000
James van Riemsdyk LW $4,250,000

Tyler Bozak C $4,200,000
Milan Michalek LW $4,000,000
Leo Komarov C $2,950,000
Colin Greening LW $2,650,000
Matt Martin LW $2,500,000
Josh Leivo LW $792,500
Peter Holland C $775,000
Connor Brown RW $686,666
Brendan Leipsic LW $653,333

That still leaves three forwards to protect out of the list given.

I agree, though I don't know how much the expansion draft factors into things. I still think the kids are only going to be made full time players if they beat out an incumbent for a job. They are all going to get a good look, but I think the team we will ice most of next year will see a ton of movement, and not really resemble what most fans expect till much later in the year.

Exactly, if they are ready they are ready. Don't hamper their development by playing a player in the minors that's beyond ready

Couldn't disagree more. Glad they're finally doing things the right way. Was scared they were going to be very active in free agency and I'd have to witness a race to 9th with the Sens

Without knowing the final roster it's guess work but those UFAs and Bernier are not on the list.
Horton on LTIR has to be protected.

And somehow you have to have 25% of your cap unprotected.

That will make things interesting for some teams. Lupul and Bozak can take up a bunch of that space as long as Lupul is healthy.

No he doesn't. Players are only on LTIR during the season. Any player with a NMC can be asked by his team to waive it. Do you really think that Horton would say no?

Nope, players are only on LTIR during the season, not the off-season.

That's why our cap is so high right now, but we gain back ~$9m with the LTIR of Robidas and Horton.

He doesn't have to. His NMC turns into a modified NTC in one year, and therefore he can be exposed. As it stands Leafs have Nobody who they are mandated to protect.

Wrong.

* Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or who otherwise have been confirmed to have a career-threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy a club's player exposure requirements, unless approval is received from the NHL.

Lou will get him dressed for the final game of the year and on to take the opening face-off - like the Nucks did a while back to preserve one of the Sedin twin's iron-man streak
