I think the value is less stopping our guys from getting rattled but in rattling opposing players and retrieving the puck for skilled guys. Would rather have Komonand Martin going into the corners to get the puck that Nylander. Hyman is going to do it either way.
- Canada Cup

its a combo of both

kids get rattled... but the steady vets out there

and as you said... use the vets in the checking roles and PK situations

its a good thing to have players who can go check the living poop out of the opposition top 6

And I'm not disagreeing. The original poster said it will stop liberaties and I said overblown nonsense and everyone jumps all over it saying need vets to support the kids(didn't say they didn't) need vets to insulate the kids (didn't say they didn't). All the replies to my post of "overblown nonsense" didn't address what was said.

lol in fairness you're short replies that you use sometimes can be taken the wrong way lol

I agree. Once the Stamkos thing fell through, I knew it was another transition year.

Andersen and how the kids pan out are the only X factors that could affect it, obviously. But I think we are looking at a top 10 pick (hopefully a Dman) again next year

- WingmanWillie

exactly... should (hopefully) be a view of the team as a whole and their progress... which should be something in the range of a 20 point improvement... but the main focus will be the individual development of the kids, particularly those who are 'elite' talents.

still expect a bottom 5-8 league wide... and - of course - a lottery win

even the leafs themselves said they needed to be tougher

how people find any of these moves surprising is beyond me

this is pretty much the offseason i expected... and if you remember... i never bought into the stamkos coming home hype.

Total agreement. I even though that bringing Stamkos home with an oversized cap hit was also a mistake. This team is at least two years from being a playoff team. These players need to be nurtured and allowed to grow into core NHL players. Giving them more room out there, will allow them to blossom as possible allstar caliber players. I'd rather see it being done this way, then the Oilers way of throwing them to the wolves and hoping for the best. What has it gotten them? Taylor Hall shipped out of town and Yakapov being pretty much ruined. Even RNH has been hobbled by injuries. If they had taken the Leafs approach, it might have ended differently.

Well, I did bold "stop liberaties being taken with the young guys and stop Andersen from being run" and posted overblown nonsense.

I though it was pretty clear what I was referring to.

be interesting to see how the oilers do this year... made some risky moves but they did get tougher.

Holl signing is all about putting Corrado on waivers and having someone other than the Canucks claim him...

or

dealing Corrado back to the Canucks for a 3rd round pick.

Holl provides insurance.. .particularly if Leafs declare they believe he'll be on the Olympic team in 2022

If the Leafs are gonna have more guys hitting, that'll help imo. I don't even care so much about Martin's fighting, but if he and Komagod are running over anything that moves it's okay with me.
