So far it looks like the Leafs are content to pick first overall again next year?
- Iggysbff

And I have no problem with that.

Now that Stamkos isn't coming here, it's time to stick with the slow and steady plan.

Next year will be painful, but we will at least get to see into the future, as opposed to seeing Boyes and Parenteau giving half-arsed efforts.

@KevRolfe See need to sign a veteran d man to a year or two. Might expect something of that ilk in the next few weeks. #TMLtalk

@KevRolfe Have always loved Luke Schenn. Veteran , physical, knows the market and if paired with an agile partner could be a nice fit.

but let's continue to tell management/experts/reporters how to do their jobs!

they know a lot more than we do sitting behind a computer typing.

Jesus Christ, are you saying that we should be listening to guys like Simmons, Feschuk, Milbury, McGuire, Poulin or any guys like that?

That would allow the Leafs to trade Matthews for a stay at home D. Chiarelli may just be at the leading edge...

So I guess the question is: Does our defense get better with UFAs or Trades?

UFAs Schenn and Wiz?

Reilly Zaitsev
Gardiner, Wiz
Carrick, Schenn
Hunwick

OR one of each Trouba, Schenn:

Reilly, Trouba
Gardiner, Zaitsev
Carrick, Schenn
Hunwick

Or 2 more trades no UFAs:

Reilly, Trouba
Gardiner, Shattensquirt
Zaitsev, Carrick
Hunwick

Then the question is which is better and what do we give up:

Trouba for ?????
Shattensquirt for ?????

Schenn for $$$
Wiz for $$$

There really is an answer out there. We could shore up our D in front of Andersen for snext year. How much offense or money to we have to give up to do it.

I would definitely consider high picks for Trouba because he's young and Reilly/Trouba seems like a good combo for years to come. But I wouldn't do it for anyone else.

Wonder what LOU is going to do???

I'd take Mirtle over those listed every single day of the week. Many hate him because he's not a Fanboy, but at least he puts thought and effort into his work.

I don't know. Edmonton made some pretty good moves to make sure they take back their coveted spot, and stay a while.

Here's a line up that could be a good mix of vets/rookies/high-end prospect for next year with two new acquisitions. (One UFA and one trade):

JVR, Kadri, Brown
Leivo, Nylander, Komarov
Rychel, Matthews, Marner
Greening, Laich, Martin

Reilly, Trouba
Gardiner, Zaitsev
Carrick, Schenn
Hunwick

Andersen
Bibeau

Some combination of the below players will have to get us Trouba because JVR needs to stay. Even if we could get Vesey, nobody knows how he will do, so JVR should still stay another year at least.

Bozak, Bernier, Holland, Lupul, Michalek, Marincin
Sosh, Hyman, Lindberg, Kapanen
Draft picks.

...I really think Reilly/Trouba will make a big difference to this team, even so much so that losing a high pick/prospect could be worth it.

You're the one who keeps pushing to sign Schenn. Management hasn't said anything to that effect. You're the one saying what they should be doing, and we're just telling you why Schenn isn't a good fit.

So just let management do their job.

Mirtle has blocked two of my three Twitter accounts.

He doesn't like me.. Him, Button, sabresbuzz, and cliff from finding Bigfoot all blocked me

Babcock was pretty clear about Kadri/Bozak being the top two centers next year. I don't think he's as likely to be traded as people hope.

The rest of them aren't fanboys either? Only reason you like Mirtle is because he takes the analytics approach, which is your right. But please, don't make the mistake of thinking he's any better than the rest of them.

Everybody writes off Michalek, but I believe he'll be a positive influence on the younger guys if he can stay healthy enough to play.

Doubt anybody is taking his contract off our hands this season (at least until the deadline).

not really.. just giving out why they should.. just like people on here female dog about how we need a dman , or not to trade JVR or to trade him..or female dog about Bozak.

Let management do their job. I'm doing the same thing everyone else is. That's writing up mock lineups, guys who Leafs should go for . You do it. so don't tell me not to.

Obviously that's meant for me. To be clear the only reason I am putting him in is because of all the chatter about him coming back to the Leafs.

For the record, I don't think Schenn got magically better, don't want him back and he has only been slotted in as a 6, not a top 4.

Cool? Do I have to log off?

*sighs, (frank)ing doctors.

If we don't sign Schenn, cool. I'm sure he'll be a good fit somewhere else .

If we do, awesome. Great fit.
