Very well stated Andrew. Its about time someone else really sees what is happening here. Like I said before Habs fans ,take the emotion out of it and you will see the logic in all of it!

but i have no issue with Subban holding out for the $9 million after Bergevin took the hard line with him on the bridge deal. that was a decision MB made and the $9 million contract was the consequence.

All of these moves will prove for naught if he does not get rid of Empty and Lefebvre behind the bench.

You think moving his contract was partially done so they don't have to pay Price $9 million+?

The sad thing is he probably could have signed him at like 10 years 60 million if he didn't play hardball.

I said right of the bat when the weber trade went down that it was a good deal for montreal. Pk was the wrong fit.

never thought of it but it could have been motivation. that's going to be a vicious contract. he'll be 31. you cannot sign him for 8 years (assuming he wants to stay). and if he maintains his current level of play/stays healthy... no idea what you do there. but for Bergevin it would be a bit presumptuous to worry about Price's next contract. no guarantee he's the one who will be negotiating it.

i heard something interesting yesterday (and don't know if the numbers add up) but at some point down the line, Nashville might be desperate to get that contract back so they can buy it out, depending on what Weber decides to do when he gets towards late 30s.

i don't think buying it out saves them from the recapture penalty though if i read it correctly. Hawks have the same issue with Hossa.

the simple subban truth is that bergevin and Molson just couldn't live with the contract. it was not about "issues in the room." it was not about the "relationship or lack thereof with the coach." it had nothing to do with "race." it was only about the contract. 8 years, 72 million. a 9 million cap hit. a 25.5 signing bonus of which the canadiens paid 9.5 million. look at any comparable. hedman, 8 years 63 million, 7.85 cap hit. karlsson, 7 years 45.5 million, 6.5 million cap hit. drew doughty, 8 years 56 million, 7 million cap hit. subban, in the words of bachman, turner, overdrive "took what he could get" and said fuk you to bergevin, Molson, and the canadiens. even Sidney Crosby, took 8.7 million with the same cap hit so that management could spend elsewhere to build around him.

this trade was made simply and only because subban isn't worth what bergevin and Molson gave him.

I think if he retires the recapture goes to Nashville no matter where he is. But if someone buys him out its on them. So nashville's best case scenario is Habs or someone else don't want to wait for him to retire or for his contract to end and buy him out.

Not 100% sure on it, but I believe that's the case
